Ensuring a sustainable future through ocean mineral harvesting.
About us
Olokun Minerals aims to solve for global clean water security by sustainably harvesting ocean minerals from desalination brine to create a renewable source of power and provide key compounds for the supply chains of the future. As water demand increases and sea levels rise, desalination becomes a more sought-after solution to provide clean water to coastal communities, but it produces a brine waste three times saltier than the ocean that threatens sea life. Olokun Minerals seeks to capture that brine stream before it goes into the ocean and harvest minerals needed for transportation infrastructure and renewable energy supply chains.

A promise made is a promise kept! I am pleased to share my second article on critical minerals, this time focusing on innovation💡 While in the first article I sought to debunk misconceptions and explain why we need critical minerals for the energy transition, this time I focused on the role innovation can and must play to: ➡ Reduce the need for primary critical minerals - i.e. "new" minerals, as opposed to secondary, reused/recycled minerals ♻ ➡ Increase primary supply of critical minerals while reducing carbon emissions and the environmental impacts of exploration, extraction, processing and refining. We need new mines (I refer you to my first article if you want to know why), so let's make sure we get them out of the ground with the best possible practices⛏ If you'd like to find out more about some of the key innovations we're seeing in this field, check out: https://lnkd.in/eGWtDSjX And the good news is there are many more❗

Olokun Minerals was the proud recipient of $20,000 for second place during the 2024 Energy Program for Innovation Clusters (EPIC) Prize event last week. Thank you to Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) for the nomination and the DOE Office of Technology Transitions for the award! https://lnkd.in/e8x7hNE8
🎉CONGRATULATIONS to the three winners of round three funding that were honored during the 2024 Energy Program for Innovation Clusters (EPIC) Prize collaboration event last week: First Place 🥇 Cache Energy developed a non-toxic, non-flammable, and a fire-retardant long duration energy storage solution in a solid fuel that can also be used to supply process heat/steam to industries as well as in commercial and residential heating. Cache Energy won $30,000. Evergreen Climate Innovations located in Chicago, IL, also won $10,000 for nominating Cache Energy. Second Place 🥈 Olokun Minerals provides mineral-based products that help divert harmful drainage water away from ocean life and provides sustainably sourced minerals for a number of different industries. Olokun Minerals won $20,000. Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) out of Los Angles, CA, nominated Olokun Minerals. Third Place 🥉 Expand Power Technologies is developing a compact, light, cost-effective, safe, and smart transformer that can be manufactured domestically with shortened lead times, expanding electrification opportunities in previously prohibited locations. Expand Power won $10,000. Read more about the winners 🔗 https://bit.ly/4dDfmEB
