Connecting people through plants to improve communities.
About us
Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s mission is education and our passion is connecting people and plants to improve communities. Our goal is to extend beyond traditional boundaries to have a positive impact and to enrich lives. The Garden is growing fresh produce for the hungry; actively participating in urban greening and water management initiatives; contributing to economic development and work-force training; and educating diverse youth and adult audiences about critical issues related to the interdependence of plants and people. Our Mission affirms the Garden as a primary resource for learning about the botanical world—its beauty, heritage, and significance to the web of life. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden connects people through plants to improve communities. Our Vision builds upon our accomplishments and expanded presence and responsibility as we have transformed from a local attraction to a national place of excellence. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, including the new Lewis Ginter Nature Reserve, reveals the unity and integration of human and plant life, celebrates the fundamental significance of the natural world, and enriches communities through horticultural and educational excellence and innovative outreach initiatives.

Things are moving fast on the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden expansion project—and we’re right in the middle of it. Our team is working on two #Greenhouse projects, which will double the size of the #Conservatory. In the first photo, you’ll see the new connection to the existing structure. In the second, the framework for a new conservatory structure is going up. Nothing beats watching a project take shape—and there’s more to come. Stay posted for updates! #PublicGardens #BotanicalGardens

Congrats to Amy Keister and Chris Ivens-Brown and the Compass Group USA / Compass Group for the kickoff off today of another #StopFoodWasteDay campaign culminating on 4/30/25. Spring means Eastern Redbuds (Cercis canadensis) are starting to bloom! This native beauty is common throughout Virginia and serves as an early source of pollen and nectar for our local pollinators. They bloom before their leaves emerge, creating a stunning early-season display. Changing Scenery, Changing Mindset After wrapping up a fantastic summit in Richmond, I made a quick stop at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden—and wow, what a game-changer! I set up my makeshift office in the rose garden, and stepping away from the fast-paced hotel environment gave me the mental reset I didn’t know I needed. The fresh air, vibrant blooms, and peaceful surroundings unlocked a new level of focus, helping me knock out some important sales calls with ease. The inspiration behind this post? Richmond Region Tourism’s incredible Marketing Summit that took place the same day. Shoutout to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden for being more than just a stunning escape—and to Richmond Region Tourism for igniting fresh ideas that go beyond the conference room. 💬 Have you ever found productivity magic by switching up your workspace? I’d love to hear your go-to focus spots! #ProductivityHacks #WorkFromAnywhere #LewisGinter #RVA #GardenOffice
