How will AI reshape how young people learn, reflect, and grow? Kali (Kay-Lee) Frederick, High Tech High Graduate School of Education and Aatash Parikh, co-founder of Inkwire, are reimagining the role of AI—not as a tool to replace human thinking, but to deepen it. Their platform helps learners track their thoughts, ask better questions, and build a habit of reflection over time. In this new Getting Smart podcast, they unpack how AI can amplify student agency and critical thinking by: -Supporting journaling and reflection at scale -Helping students articulate what they’re learning and why it matters -Making visible what’s often invisible: growth in self-awareness and metacognition Education leaders: if you're exploring how to integrate AI in ways that honor student voice and enhance human learning, this conversation is a must-listen. Districts all over the US have been creating competency-based "Portraits of a Graduate" to identify markers for student success. ⚡ But in order for students to be happy, agentic, critical thinkers, TEACHERS need to be happy, agentic, critical thinkers. If AI can replace tutoring, personalization, curation, and so much more for learners, what role should teachers have? What should teachers continue doing and what should they lean on AI for? What should the Portrait of a Teacher be? Join us us at ASU+GSV Summit to discuss the competencies teachers need in the Age of AI and identify how to update our expectations for educators, reimagine the teaching role, and hire more thoughtfully. So far, the 2025 Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) event has been a hearty dose of reality – a long, hard look into the mirror, just to make sure we're still human under the tangle of lanyard, badge, and badge tags. Given the theme of Human Leadership in the Age of AI, this is no surprise. Sessions and keynotes alike have been ringing the bell that we are only at the beginning of the hockey stick curve of AI. Largely, sessions have been laser-focused on: 🛎️ How to adopt and adapt to AI as a leadership team 🛎️ How to ensure staff, students, and systems are secure 🛎️ How to advocate for (and effectively implement) broader connectivity 🛎️ And how to not only keep humans in the loop, but to remember that humans are the loop I'm grateful to be learning from so many inspiring edtech leaders who have their finger firmly on the pulse of modern threats and opportunities. More to come. #CoSN2025
