A vision statement isn’t decoration. It sets a direction. In a recent CBE Catalyst conversation, school teams explored what it means to craft a clear, compelling CBE vision—not just for themselves, but for their communities. When written well, it becomes the top of the funnel—every program, plan, and partnership gets filtered through that clarity. Check out this simple, four-part process that we used to guide the work. It’s not just an exercise. It’s an anchor. What story does your school really want to tell about why CBE is a powerful way to support deep and relevant learning? #CBECatalyst #CompetencyBasedEducation #VisionStatement #FutureReady #reDesignU #EducationalLeadership #CultureOfCare

“Tending soil.” This framing—learning as ecosystem care, not content delivery—feels especially resonant as we support schools in designing learner-centered systems. The most powerful learning ecosystems don’t exist instead of schools. They emerge through partnership: Classrooms 🤝 Communities Policy 🤝 Practice Young People 🤝 Adults who believe in their potential As Gregg Behr writes for Getting Smart, real change means connecting the places where learning happens: schools, libraries, parks, makerspaces, museums, families. This is what we’re building. 📄 Read the article: https://lnkd.in/gzURsuJx #CBECatalyst #LearningEcosystems #CompetencyBasedEducation #reDesignU #FutureReady #NewPathways #EducationalEquity

What are you unlearning lately? Unlearning is a conscious choice & skill. Shifting to competency-based education (CBE) requires an openness and commitment to unlearning. Making CBE real—not just as a framework, but as a lived experience—starts with our beliefs, like: ➤ Learning is jagged, not linear. ➤ Mistakes are signals for support, not signs of failure. ➤ Progress means more than a passing grade. As one educator put it, “Our mindset is strong—but pedagogy is where we need to grow.” This is the work: holding what’s worth celebrating while moving toward what’s possible. 🔗 Want a starting point for your own team’s reflection? 🌿 Spring is here—what if we saw it as more than just a season? One of the most exciting additions to Future9 v2.0 is the “Connect to the Natural World” skill within the Sustain Well-Being competency. At its core, this skill recognizes that our connection to nature isn’t just about knowledge—it’s about experience, reciprocity, and stewardship. → It starts simply—noticing the softness of leaves, the sound of birds, or the feel of the wind. → It grows into understanding nature’s cycles, feeling awe, and reflecting on how nature shapes our well-being. → It deepens into taking action—restoring habitats, advocating for environmental stewardship, and recognizing our reciprocal relationship with nature. In a time of disconnection, how might we make space for sensory connection, awe, and stewardship? 📖 Explore the full Future9 v2.0 framework to see how this skill progresses across a learner’s lifetime: https://lnkd.in/exdzWuHn How do you build your connection to the natural world? "So many frameworks name important skills, but few make them teachable, observable, and measurable. Future9 makes the how visible." This great quote from last week’s Future9 v2.0 Webinar captures what our session was all about—the how of moving from abstract ideas about competencies to real, observable, and teachable skills that prepare students for a rapidly changing world. We explored what’s changing in education, work, and the competencies students need to thrive. The conversation wasn’t just about what’s new in the Future9 v2.0—it was about what’s next for learning communities committed to meaningful change. 📌 Key moments from the discussion: [00:02:03] – Why competencies must be observable (not just abstract ideas inside a student’s brain). [00:09:54] – The shift from career readiness to lifelong adaptability—because today’s graduates will change jobs, industries, and even career paths multiple times. [00:22:26] – How Future9 v2.0 refines essential skills, from cultural intelligence to connecting with the natural world—a direct response to what students, schools, and research told us was missing. If you missed the live session, you can watch the full recording here: https://lnkd.in/esRVQfvw And if you’re working to advocate for competency-based learning in your community, download the updated Future9 framework—it’s free, open-source, and designed to be a tool, not a prescription. ⬇️ Download Future9 v2.0: https://lnkd.in/exdzWuHn What resonated with you? The Future of Work is Here—Are We Ready? Automation, AI, and a rapidly shifting economy are rewriting the rules of work. A recent Forbes article by Dr. Maja (Maya) Zelihic highlights how competency-based education (CBE) is essential for preparing learners for these changes. How do we ensure today’s students are equipped with the skills they’ll need tomorrow? Consider this: 👉 By 2027, 69 million new jobs will emerge, while 83 million will disappear (World Economic Forum). 👉 92% of employers say human capabilities—like communication, creativity, and leadership—are just as important as technical skills (Deloitte). 👉 Yet, only 10% of high school students feel prepared for the workforce. The future of work demands critical thinking, adaptability, collaboration, and problem-solving. By focusing on real-world competencies like the Future9, we’re not just preparing students to graduate—we’re preparing them to thrive in careers that don’t even exist yet, with transferable skills that remain relevant no matter how industries evolve. So, how do we bridge the gap? 💡 Embed competency-based learning in K-12 and higher education. 💡Rethink what “career readiness” really means. 💡Connect learning to industry needs through partnerships, apprenticeships, and skills-based credentials. It’s time for educators, employers, and communities to come together to support a future-ready workforce. What do you think? How can we accelerate this shift? 📩 Download "The Future of Work: Why Future9 Matters"—your guide to advocating for CBE in your learning community: https://lnkd.in/eA_iKEcH Read the Forbes article 🔗https://lnkd.in/gwuAY4fH #FutureOfWork #CompetencyBasedEducation #SkillsForTheFuture #Future9 #LifelongLearning

“Just fold it in.” Ever been given directions that assume you know how to do something—when in reality, you have no idea? (Looking at you, recipe instructions.) This Schitt’s Creek classic is more than just comedy gold—it’s a perfect example of why explicit skill instruction matters. When we expect learners to just “get it” without modeling or breaking down the steps, we leave them stuck, frustrated, or faking their way through. Whether it’s cooking, coding, or career-ready skills, clear instruction and guided practice make all the difference. Check out this hilarious clip and ask yourself: Where have you been told to “just fold it in” without the how? 📽️ https://lnkd.in/eXk8GJqi Want to make sure your learners get it? Download our tip sheet for practical strategies to model, demonstrate, and guide learning—no guessing required! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eEeBr3eE #FutureReadySkills #ExplicitInstruction #LearningInAction #SchittsCreek #FoldInTheCheese
