In honor of World Health Day this week, we’re proud to highlight the research-driven foundation of the Data Observation Toolkit (DOT)—developed by DataKind in partnership with Medic, and recognized as a certified Digital Public Good. DOT goes beyond one-time audits or frontline-only support. It’s a modular, open-source, platform-level solution designed to strengthen data quality and trust across the entire health ecosystem. Whether used by governments, NGOs, or digital health platforms, DOT is built to be: ✅ Deployable across systems to flag problematic data or care gaps in real time ✅ Adaptable to diverse technical environments ✅ Human-centered—empowering the health workers who generate and use the data Grounded in research from 7.7M+ health encounters and shaped by community insight, DOT is already driving impact in Uganda and Lesotho. Stay tuned for more! 🔗 In the meantime, explore how data trust starts with thoughtful design: bit.ly/3DZrdQB #worldhealthday #worldhealthday2025 #datakind #digitalpublicgood #datascience #AI #opensource #dataquality #frontlinehealth #healthdata

DataKindⓇ is a global nonprofit that harnesses the power of data science and AI in the service of humanity.
About us
At DataKindⓇ, we believe in the transformative power of data science and AI to create a more promising future. Since our founding in 2012, we’ve been at the forefront of designing scalable, data-driven tools that address some of the world’s toughest challenges—ranging from frontline health, humanitarian action, climate and environment, economic opportunity, education, and more. As both a product innovator and a movement catalyst, we set new standards in the social sector, empowering organizations to harness the full potential of data science and AI while putting communities first. Our journey began with a bold idea that data science could change the world. In 2010, our founder shared this vision in a blog post. The idea resonated deeply. Within a week, over 300 people joined what would become the Data for Good movement, proving the potential of this vision. Two years later, DataKind was born, turning that spark into a sustained global effort. Today, DataKind continues to innovate, creating tools and solutions that are designed not just for individual organizations, but to address sector-wide challenges. Our work scales across communities, improving the ability of social impact organizations to tackle pressing issues. Support for our work has only grown, with a vibrant global community, dozens of corporations and foundations, and a talented staff on four continents. We remain a catalyst for the broader Data for Good movement, advancing the use of data science and AI to create sustainable, scalable impact for a better world. 🚦 NYC just announced that the first quarter of 2025 had the second fewest traffic deaths in 35 years. A major milestone in the city’s Vision Zero journey. At DataKind, we’re proud to have played a role in this progress. Partnering with New York City Department of Transportation, Microsoft, and other cities, we used advanced data science techniques to: • Estimate street-level traffic volumes citywide • Model crash risk based on street design • Help identify which interventions — like bike lanes or traffic signals — are working • Enable smarter allocation of safety resources And much of this work was powered by NYC’s open data — a timely reminder as we close out Open Data Week. Data saves lives. 🔗 Learn how data science is making our streets safer: https://bit.ly/4cenhYI #datakind #visionzero #NYCDOT #opendataweek #datascience #AI #dataforgood #opendata #urbantech #transportationsafety #smartcities
