Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for a conversation with Jessica Elefante, author of Raising Hell, Living Well: Freedom from Influence in a World Where Everyone Wants Something from You (including me). This was part of our new series of intimate conversations with Responsible Tech authors and thought leaders helping to tackle thorny tech & society issues, fight for a future that is aligned with the public interest, and examine what it means to be human in the digital age. Who would you like to see NEXT in our series? These happen in Manhattan, outside of our regular in-person gatherings in NYC, DC, SF, and London (plus our new ATIHx initiative for independently organized gatherings leveraging ATIH's large community and tools for connection). #AllTechIsHuman #ResponsibleTech

All Tech Is Human's Sandra Khalil has entered the chat...about the infamous Signal chat, offering insight and commentary to the BBC (Sunday with Steven Rainey). Listen below (starts at 9:40 in the recording). Some of the areas that Sandra focused on include: - End-to-end encryption ensures messages are secure in transit, but risks on either end still exist. If a party's device is compromised with malware, unauthorized access, etc., messages can be exposed. - A platform's metadata collection (though minimal on some platforms) can expose patterns about chat data. In the wrong hands, this can be used to contextualize and corroborate the contours of a sensitive discussion. - Classified information has strong protocols for use - it's restricted to air-gapped environments (without access to the Internet) and government-approved communication systems designed for that level of sensitivity. - When inadvertent issues arise, what does the right response look like? For example, a commercial platform can be legally compelled to share its data - what happens then? How do we take that into account as users? Have a listen! #ResponsibleTech #AllTechIsHuman https://lnkd.in/emWMMjp8
