In a rousing #SkollWF plenary with Darren Walker and Mark Suzman, we heard from two preeminent leaders in philanthropy about where the funding community still has work to do. We know that supporting those most proximate to the challenges we seek to address is a surefire way to generate the greatest impact—and yet, truly listening to these leaders requires more than the sincere intention to do so. 👂🙏 It takes radical shifts in the paradigms that guide how we in philanthropy gather information, explore options, and make decisions.

In times of crisis, true leaders encourage us to be courageous. 💪 Social innovators have long understood how to shift out of default operating mode to find more sustainable, equitable ways of solving problems and caring for our world. At the 2025 #SkollWF, that resilience was on full display. In a session titled “Redefining Progress: New Frontiers for the Field of Social Innovation,” we heard four visionaries (Jeroo Billimoria, Dr. François Bonnici, Cheryl Dorsey, Wawira Njiru, and Neera Nundy) reframe our current moment of challenge as a profound opportunity to resource change in new ways. They called on the field to reimagine what progress looks like, and the role each of us plays in realizing it. How can you shift your perspective to turn closed doors into windows to new opportunities? 🪟

At the Skoll World Forum, we gathered leaders driving climate action at the front lines to ask: how are you preparing your community for COP30? 🌎 Grassroots movements, Indigenous leaders, and civil society are critical—not only for shaping the negotiations ahead, but for ensuring real change lasts long after. Speakers Mike Davis, Daniela Orofino Poubel, Antoinette (Nonette) Royo, and Archana Soreng emphasized protecting the Amazon to protect the world, elevating frontline defenders who risk their lives for the planet, and backing youth leadership with trust and solidarity. As COP30 heads to the Amazon for the first time, the momentum is powerful—and the voices of those most impacted must be centered. #SkollWF #RoadToCOP30

How do we turn our climate concerns into powerful action? 🌍💧 Christiana Figueres, along with Brother Phap Huu and Brother Spirit of Plum Village, explored this question during the session “From Eco-Grief to Climate Action: Cultivating Resilience for the Planet.” They called on us to recognize that meaningful change transcends personal habits and requires us to deeply integrate mindfulness into our interactions and decisions, shaping our collective response to environmental challenges.
