About us
Community Health Center, Inc. (CHC). CHC is one of the country’s most creative and dynamic providers of primary medical, dental and mental health services to the uninsured and underinsured. We are one of the leading health-care providers in the state of Connecticut, providing comprehensive primary care services in medicine, dentistry, and behavioral health. With more than 145,000 active patients, CHC is the health care home that works to keep our patients—and our communities—healthy. We go beyond the traditional health services to bring care wherever our patients and clients are, using innovative service delivery models and state of the art technology. We use the latest treatments and technologies within the Patient-Centered Medical Home Model (PCMH) to care for our growing patient base. We also are engaged in practice transformation work around the country through our Weitzman Institute and affiliates: National Nurse Practitioner Residency and Fellowship Training Consortium, the National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement, and ConferMED.

Roughly 85% of respondents to a survey cited by Michael Sapienza, CEO of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, say they would rather do their taxes than get a colonoscopy. “45 is the new 50," says Sapienza, whose alliance was instrumental in lowering the recommended screening age and, in 2022, recruited actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to have their colon screenings filmed. “We need to do a better job of talking to the public about the barriers,” Sapienza tells Conversations on Health Care hosts Mark Masselli and Margaret Flinter. Mary Bono has left the halls of Congress, but she’s still winning with her efforts to stop the misuse of both prescription and illegal drugs. Bono, co-founder and chair of MAPDA (Mothers for Awareness and Prevention of Drug Abuse), wants to see a focus on solutions from lawmakers. With a greater presence of fentanyl in the drug supply, “everything [has] changed because there’s no longer time for experimentation,” Bono says. “‘One pill can kill’ is a [Drug Enforcement Administration] slogan, and it’s true.” She tells “Conversations on Health Care” hosts Mark Masselli and Margaret Flinter that “I’m the daughter of an ear, nose and throat surgeon … and I try to keep balance in mind when we try to go after these policies. I’m very optimistic that we’ll get this right.” Watch the full episode, here: https://chc1.co/3Rhyeir #marybono #overdoseprevention #overdoseresponse #MAPDA #research #healthcarepolicy #healthcare #news #podcast

Community Health Center, Inc. and AmeriCorps recognize the commitment of the millions of AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers who have contributed billions of hours of service across all 50 states and U.S. territories, creating lasting impact in communities nationwide. This year we celebrate our members, volunteers, programs, leaders, and champions who demonstrate that America’s greatness comes from the extraordinary acts of ordinary citizens. Our Healthy Communities AmeriCorps team volunteered on Monday with the New Britain Boys & Girls Club to help get their off-site camp ready for the Spring/Summer season. On Tuesday we wrote and delivered thank you letters to our community partners, and lastly, on Wednesday we had a day dedicated to thanking our members for their service. #AmeriCorpsWorks #AmeriCorpsWeek2025 #AmeriCorpsWeek #DayoftheA #CommunityHealthCenter #Connecticut #ServeCT #ServeConnecticut
