Medicaid reimbursement rates play a crucial role in keeping community health centers open and accessible. With funding challenges on the rise, what does this mean for the future of care for vulnerable populations? "By failing to support FQHCs adequately, we perpetuate disparities in access to primary care, worsen health outcomes, and drive up overall healthcare costs." Karen McQueeney Daley is the Chief Executive Officer of Optimus Health Care, which operates thirty health centers, including school-based sites, throughout Bridgeport, Stratford, Milford and Stamford. Connecticut’s community health centers are taking legal action against the state’s Department of Social Services (DSS) for failing to provide adequate Medicaid reimbursement rates. This chronic underfunding has forced centers to reduce staff and services, jeopardizing care for over 440,000 residents, including 270,000 on HUSKY. Joanne Borduas BSN, MSN, MBA, Board Chair of the Community Health Center Association of Connecticut (CHC/ACT) and CEO of Community Health & Wellness Center of Greater Torrington, emphasizes the urgent need for the state to comply with federal laws and properly fund these essential services. The health of our communities is at stake. Read more: Opinion: https://lnkd.in/eYRw_ywS

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month – Get Screened, Save Lives! Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S., but it is also one of the most preventable. Regular screenings can detect cancer early- when treatment is most effective- or even prevent it altogether. That’s why we are proud to partner with Exact Sciences to spread awareness and encourage life-saving screenings. Community Health Centers across Connecticut are committed to increasing awareness and access to life-saving screenings, especially for underserved communities. If you're 45 or older, or have a family history of colorectal cancer, talk to your healthcare provider about screening options. Many screenings are covered by insurance, including Medicaid and Medicare. Let’s work together to close the screening gap and save lives! “We could always sit back at some point with the uncertainty around everything that’s happening at the federal level right now, and say, ‘This might not be a good time.’ But we don’t have that time any longer because our patients are depending on us.” - Joanne Borduas BSN, MSN, MBA, CEO of Community Health & Wellness Center.

CHC/ACT's 2025 Priorities:Advocating for a Healthier Future! To ensure high-quality care for all, we must: 🔵 Increase Medicaid reimbursement rates to reflect the true cost of care. 🔵 Streamline the “change in scope” process at DSS to align with federal law. 🔵 Include FQHCs in the eConsults program to expand access to specialty care & reduce costs. 🔵 Protect 340B contract pharmacy access—a no-cost solution for affordable medications. 🔵 Expand State Loan Repayment Program funding to address workforce shortages. 🔵 Simplify health facility licensure across DPH, DCF, & DMHAS. 🔵 Fund Medicaid reimbursement for Community Health Workers to improve equity & outcomes.
