Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the AIAA Southeastern Regional Student Conference in Greensboro, NC. It was an honor to present my research on "Increasing the Range & Effectiveness of Air-to-Air Missiles Using Directed Energy Weapons." Being surrounded by passionate students, researchers, and professionals in aerospace was both inspiring and motivating. The discussions, feedback, and exchange of ideas made this experience truly unforgettable. Huge thanks to AIAA for organizing such a well-run and impactful event, and for giving students a platform to showcase their work and grow within the aerospace community.

Thrilled to have served as Chair of the AIAA Region I Student Conference 2025, held from March 19–21, 2025, at ÉTS Montréal and for the first time in Canada! As a member of AIAA ÉTS, I had the opportunity to actively participate in organizing this event, which brought together over 170 students, researchers, and professionals from across the aerospace field. This conference was fully centered on aerospace and provided a unique space to connect academic research with industry innovation. It was a privilege to work alongside the AIAA ÉTS team and to meet Mr. Walter Gordon, whose presence and support added so much value. This experience reinforced my professional commitment to the aerospace community and my goal to stay engaged at the intersection of technology and research. #AIAARegionI #AIAAETS2025 #Aerospace #StudentLeadership #STEM #ProfessionalDevelopment #ÉTS #IndustryAndAcademia #AerospaceInnovation AIAA AIAA ÉTS École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS)

As many of us tune in to watch the NCAA bracket—(I’m a baller who loves MM) I recently had the chance to serve as a special judge in Virginia’s science fair on behalf of AIAA(American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics). It got me thinking… The students presenting in this stadium are competing in a more crucial bracket, A GLOBAL BRACKET. Most importantly, an endeavor in which we dare not come in second place—American competitiveness. THIS IS WHERE OUR NATION’S ATTENTION OUGHT TO BE, BECAUSE WE NEED TO DO BETTER. The students on display here have the success of our nation in their hands, and they are ready to deliver, IF we support them with the right education, funding, and motivation to succeed. America’s future is on the line in this gym, not in the NCAA tournament. Some of the presentations were just astounding, like that of Nived Nandakumar and Nikhil Krishna who designed an AI solution for space payloads using laser energy. These guys were inspiring, and earned my personal coin on the spot. Others developed sustainable solutions in agriculture, manufacturing, chemistry and other vital areas. Special thanks to AIAA organizer, Susan Bardenhagen, and my fellow judges, Mike Rampino, Vince Dutcavich, Eric Miller, and Richard Tuminello, PhD for making this event a success!

I had the wonderful experience of attending the AIAA region IV student conference this past weekend! It was very exciting to have the opportunity with Ashlan Benson and Braden Wells to present our work on remote imaging with our paper, “CubeSat with VSWIR Imager for Detection and Tracking of Hypersonic Vehicles.” A big shoutout to the The University of Texas at Dallas AIAA team for their excellent work hosting everyone, and a big thanks to all of the industry partners that helped make the event possible!

I had the opportunity to attend the "American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA)" 2025 Region VI Student Conference in Irvine, CA, and it was truly inspiring. It was impressive to watch the students showcase their research alongside insights from guest speakers like Nahum Melamed (Aerospace Corp.) and Julian Rimoli (UCI). ☄️ What sets AIAA Region VI apart is that it’s the only chapter offering high school students a platform to present their work, allowing them to connect with university peers as they embark on their aerospace journeys. 🚀 It was also exciting to meet Dr. Jeff Puschell and witness his commitment, passion, and contributions to nurturing young talent in both the aero and astro. 🛸 Seeing these young minds dive into the latest aerospace advancements and gain not only technical expertise but also the confidence and connections that will shape their futures is truly heartening. ✈️ Kudos to AIAA for fostering such a dynamic, forward-thinking community that’s actively paving the way for the future of aerospace and American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Student Branch at UCI for organizing this year's event! 🛰️ #AIAA #Aerospace #STEM #Innovation #FutureLeaders UC Irvine

Honored to present our research at AIAA's Region VI Student Conference at UC Irvine this past weekend! Grateful for the opportunity to share the hard work of the ASPEN team and excited for the future of our research. Looking forward to what’s next!

This past weekend, USC ASPEN had the opportunity to share two presentations of our ongoing research at AIAA's Region VI Student Conference at UC Irvine! As part of our simulations team, Zolia Sarmiento and Haron Samhan presented "Optimizing Adamantane Plasma Thruster Efficiency via 2-D Simulations." Also, Nicholas Kiley, Jonathan Fisher, Marin Davis, and Brian Phu presented "Thrust Characterization and Plasma Diagnostics for an Adamantane Thruster" in a joint paper between the thrust stand and diagnostics teams. This marks the first time ASPEN has submitted and presented two research papers at a conference, and demonstrates our continued refinement and development of our diagnostics, simulations, thrust stand, and testing team. Thank you to all our lab members and students who have helped us these past semesters and put in tireless hours of hard work. We'd like to thank the AIAA Student Branch at UCI for hosting a wonderful conference and for the opportunity to share our research. Also, a special thanks to our advisors Matthew Gilpin and Lubos Brieda for their continued guidance and support of our team. The work doesn't end here -- every day we are working to improve our thruster design and develop our diagnostics suite and simulations' capabilities. Now is a great time to get involved, so if you are a student at USC interested in gaining hands-on research experience with electric propulsion, we invite you to stop by our lab. #AIAA #USC #ElectricPropulsion #ASPEN
