Happy 145th Birthday to us! On the anniversary of our formal launch, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to our members, patrons, and staff around the world for your continued support.
Happy Birthday ASME! On April 7th, 1880, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) was formally launched, with the constitution and by-laws adopted and the first president, R.H. Thurston, elected. Stevens Institute of Technology, America's first college of mechanical engineering, played a key role in the founding of ASME, holding its inaugural meeting in the Edwin A. Stevens Building on April 7th. The Society's founders were prominent machine builders and technical innovators of the late nineteenth century, including Alexander Lyman Holley, Henry Rossiter Worthington, and John Edison Sweet. ASME was founded to provide a setting for engineers to discuss the concerns brought by the rise of industrialization and mechanization, so join us in celebrating this milestone! #engineering #mechanicalengineering #engineeringhistory

Thursday, March 20th marked a powerful day of progress and purpose for ASME, highlighting our deepening commitment to advancing engineering. The day began with the inaugural Women’s Leadership Collective Workshop, a gathering focused on supporting and empowering mid- to senior-level women in engineering. Held during #WomensHistoryMonth and amid a historic milestone—ASME’s Board of Governors reaching 50% gender parity—the workshop fostered dialogue, strategy, and connection among women leaders and allies across the engineering sector. This initiative was made possible by the visionary leadership of ASME’s Board of Governors: Susan Ipri-Brown, Dr. Janis Terpenny, Monica Moman-Saunders, PE MBA ASME Fellow, Dr. Kathryn Jablokow, Nicole Dyess, and Alma Martinez Fallon. Later that evening, we hosted our third annual Reinventing the Future event. This year’s theme: Women Engineering Change—honoring outstanding women in engineering and recognizing the continued progress of the ASME Foundation’s Campaign for Next Generation Engineers. Together, these events underscored our vision for an engineering workforce that reflects the full spectrum of talent, reinforcing that a better world is possible—tomorrow’s innovators will build it.
