Maternal mortality is on the rise, but not everyone is at equal risk🤰🏽🤰🏿🤰🏻 Take a moment to reflect on the words of Samantha Truman, our CEO, on the maternal mortality crisis in the U.S.—a crisis that disproportionately affects Black and Indigenous women. As we mark #BlackMaternalHealthWeek, we echo the call to move from awareness to action. Let’s do better. #MaternalHealth #HealthEquity #BMHW #ReproductiveJustice
🔴 Black Maternal Health Week is a time to shed light on a critical issue: the rising rates of maternal deaths in the United States—one of the highest among developed nations. In this video, I talk about the urgent state of maternal health, why it matters for everyone, because giving birth should not be the price of giving life. 🎥 Whether you're a healthcare professional, policymaker, or simply someone who cares—this conversation is for you. Let’s move from awareness to action. 💪🏾 #MaternalHealth #MaternalMortalityAwareness #BlackMaternalHealthWeek #HealthEquity #PublicHealth #MaternalMortalityWeek

Shaping the Future of Healthcare: Addressing Inequities Now for a Better Tomorrow 🌍👩🏽⚕️👨🏾⚕️💡 Advancing Health Equity centers its work on building a future where bias and discrimination in healthcare are minimized, organizational cultures are equitable, and patient outcomes are significantly improved. Today, medical schools serve as critical gateways for shaping the next generation of healthcare leaders—leaders who will care for diverse patient populations across the country. In our work evaluating healthcare institutions—including hospital systems, individual hospitals, and clinics—we’ve consistently seen how a lack of cultural responsiveness and understanding directly impacts patient health outcomes and perpetuates disparities in care. The stakes remain high. The United States currently has the highest maternal mortality rate among industrialized nations. Black newborns are three times more likely to die than white newborns—a gap that narrows significantly when Black physicians care for Black infants, with studies showing a 50% reduction in mortality under such care. The students in our medical schools today will define what the healthcare system looks like tomorrow. If we don’t address these inequities now, the consequences will continue—reflected in preventable deaths, financial instability, and the loss of generational health across communities. We know we can do better—and we must act accordingly. #BlackMaternalHealthMonth #AdvancingHealthEquity #MaternalHealthMortality #CulturalResponsiveness #HealthcareLeadership #PatientOutcomes

To understand the present—and improve the future—we must acknowledge the past. Last week, Dr. Kellie Bryant, DNP, WHNP, CHSE, FSSH, FADLN, FAAN led a powerful live session in our Health Equity Champions Program on Historical Injustices and Their Impact on Contemporary Healthcare Inequities. As we mark Minority Health Month, it’s a powerful moment to reflect on how history continues to influence present-day healthcare inequities—and what we must do to change that. We must teach about our past so we can learn from it—and ensure we don’t repeat it. Dr. Bryant posed a critical question: "Some say, ‘Why keep focusing on the past? That doesn’t happen anymore.’ So let’s ask ourselves—why does the past still matter?" Our participants responded with insight, vulnerability, and honesty. Thank you to everyone who contributed your voice. Your input was invaluable and continues to shape this shared learning experience. Want to stay updated on future learning opportunities?
