  • We’re proud to announce that Rampion 2 Offshore Windfarm has been granted development consent – a major milestone in delivering clean energy off the Sussex coast! 🌬️💡 Commissioned by Rampion Extension Development Limited (RED), a joint venture between RWE Renewables and its partners, this project will deliver 90 offshore wind turbines, three substations, and 36km of onshore buried electricity cables through West Sussex and the South Downs National Park. Over the past four years, our team has led the Environmental Impact Assessment and Development Consent Order (DCO) process— from optioneering, environmental surveys and stakeholder engagement to successfully securing consent. A shout-out to our expert team, led by Lauren Osmond (Project Director) and Alan Pearson (Project Manager), alongside our partners GoBe Consultants Ltd and our suite of technical specialists, whose dedication and collaboration with RED have been instrumental in reaching this milestone. #OffshoreWind #Sustainability #DCO

  • How are we Revitalising London’s Icons? 🏨 For over 150 years, Claridge’s and The Berkeley have been at the heart of London’s luxury hotel scene. When the Maybourne Hotel Group set out to revitalise these iconic properties, they turned to our team to bring together cutting-edge engineering and classic elegance. Our project highlights include: 🏛️ Refurbishment of the Grade II listed Claridge’s, including innovative basement extensions for new spa and pool facilities. 🔧 Expert engineering solutions ensured both hotels remained operational, with minimal guest disruption. 🎨 Creative design strategies expanded luxury spaces while maintaining the integrity of the historic buildings. Alongside The Berkeley, Maybourne’s new all-suite hotel, The Emory, is a standout addition to London’s luxury hotel offerings. Located adjacent to The Berkeley, The Emory is a newly-built property under the Maybourne umbrella. These two iconic hotels stand independently, with their own concepts and operations. From the deep basement extension at Claridge’s to the striking façade of The Emory, our work helped breathe new life into two of London’s most beloved hotels, ensuring they stay at the forefront of luxury hospitality. In a hugely significant achievement, SMP Alliance has overnight successfully completed on time a nationwide programme to install additional emergency areas across the motorway network for National Highways. A bulk of the National Emergency Area Retrofit programme (138 / 151 emergency areas) was instructed to SMP Alliance in January 2022 to be completed by 31 March 2025. Main construction of the £390M programme started in June 2023 on the M1 in South Yorkshire. Works have since been carried out on the M1, M3, M4, M5, M20, M25 and M27. SMP Alliance’s successful on-schedule delivery has resulted from unprecedented #collaboration between the seven members - National Highways, client; Fluor Corporation, production management partner; two digitally-enabled design partners WSP in the UK & Ireland and Jacobs; and three on-site assembly partners, Balfour Beatty plc, bmJV (the BAM UK & Ireland / Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure Joint Venture) and Costain Group PLC - with an integrated network of 100+ #suppliers. Commenting on this achievement, Eamonn Slevin, Alliance Assembly Director, said: “On behalf of the Alliance Leadership Team, well done and thank you to the entire NEAR team for their incredible effort and dedication. “Together the NEAR leadership led by Toby Bedford CEng MICE, the three regional delivery teams in the North, Midlands and South, along with our wider Alliance colleagues and critical contributions from our supplier network partners, have designed and installed new emergency areas at locations where they could make the most difference and bring benefits to road users as soon as possible. “By embracing innovations and delivering in a lean, digitally-enabled and programmatic way, multi-disciplinary SMP Alliance teams have, in conjunction with National Highways colleagues, overcome immense challenges to compress a five-year programme to just three. “Delivering this nationally important programme on time is an outstanding achievement all involved should be immensely proud of. This success is testament to the integrated approach and collaborative environment at the heart of SMP Alliance, something that offers transformative learnings for the whole #construction and #civilengineering community.” National Highways CEO Nick Harris added: “All new emergency areas have now been installed, marking the end of this important safety programme. Emergency areas provide drivers with more frequent opportunities to pull over should they break down or experience difficulties. I’d like to thank drivers for their patience throughout the work.” Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood also said: “We take road safety seriously. That’s why I’m pleased to see the installation of more than 150 additional emergency areas on smart motorways across the country, helping to keep people safe.” For more on the National Emergency Area Retrofit programme, see: https://lnkd.in/ebQNkDX8

  • WSP in the UK & Ireland is proud to support Geosolutions Leeds, an interdisciplinary research centre at the University of Leeds by providing free FracMan academic licenses to empower postgraduate teaching and research in geothermal projects. This partnership, part of Leeds' Climate Plan, is a vital step toward advancing subsurface research and accelerating the energy transition. The project will focus on assessing the deep geothermal potential of the Early Carboniferous limestone aquifer in the UK, with the goal of enhancing our understanding of subsurface fluid flow through fracture pattern development. This innovative work could extend to critical sectors like CCS, geotechnical, and nuclear energy projects. 🌡️ By leveraging FracMan, the world’s first commercially available DFN software, WSP and Leeds are solving complex rock-related problems and contributing to a sustainable future through cutting-edge research in energy transition. 🌿 #EnergyTransition #Geothermal #FractureAnalysis #NetZero #DFN Dr. Ellie MacInnes
