One of the best parts of my job is to meet awesome people and to recognise their success and achievements. The CDLS Commendations have been running for a few years now, but for 2024/25 we expanded the awards to encompass the contribution our industrial partners make to Defence outputs as well. This week we recognised 6 incredible teams. They represent the very best of the innovative and ground breaking work being undertaken right across industry, from alternative energy to AdM, from support to the Ukrainian armed forces and modelling and analytics. Such close partnerships and collaboration with industry are critical as we look to respond to a much more dangerous and uncertain world. Attended the Digital Engineering 2025 Conference hosted by Team Defence Information this week - a valuable opportunity to hear how Defence and Industry are tackling data integration, model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and the challenge of digital transformation. Last week we were delighted to be asked back for Team Defence Information Digital Engineering Conference. As a hybrid event with presenters from the US, we provided full audio, video and lighting for the live audience as well as those online. Yesterday morning I had the opportunity to present at Team Defence Information’s Digital Engineering 2025 conference. Jack Hodges and I presented on the topic of early career professional’s opinions of job retention across the Defence sector on behalf of TDI Vanguard, and the People & Skills work-stream. In this research, we hosted a series of workshops addressing the pains and gains and Defence and what young people think of the sector. Discussions highlighted that the pace of the sector, image of defence and in-person working were the key areas for change. Additionally, the strengths were drawn out in the pay and benefits of the sector as well as the opportunities for remote working and flexible working patterns. It was interesting to discover the varied opinions and feelings of early career professionals in these workshops, particularly noting that it goes beyond the simple notion of pay. In the coming months, I am excited to be leading this project and exploring more topics within that exacerbate these issues and working with others to identify potential routes for solution. #defence #earlycareerprofessional #peopleandskills

This week I was in Bristol and attended the Team Defence Information conference #DE25 where we explored the benefits of Digital Engineering in the defence sector. We learnt how Digital Engineering accelerates the development of complex support systems, enhances visibility and collaboration, and provides an integrated lifecycle view. It also enables better decision -making through digital twinning which reduces delays, errors and allows for early identification of potential issues. Ultimately improving performance, safety and cost-efficiency.
