  • 🏆 We’re proud to share that Troon station has received the National Railway Heritage Award for Urban Heritage, recognising the dedication and teamwork that went into bringing this historic building back to life. From the early days of rebuilding after the devastating fire, to reopening the station and now unveiling the award plaque - it’s been a real team effort. 💪 Our colleagues also teamed up with contractor AmcoGiffen for three days of volunteering at Troon Primary School, painting classrooms, tidying the playground and building new paths- helping create a space the pupils can enjoy every day. A huge thanks to everyone who played a part- on site, at the school, and behind the scenes. 👏 Railway Heritage Trust | Transport Scotland | ScotRail

  • 🖌️ Network Rail Scotland has completed a £1.5 million refurbishment project on two 140-year-old railway bridges in Glasgow, extending their life for years to come. The project forms part of a wide-ranging bridge modernisation programme designed to protect and improve Scotland’s Railway, with nearly £2 billion being invested to increase reliability and improve performance over the next five years. This includes a multi-million programme of bridge improvement works around the Glasgow city centre area, including structures at Cumberland Street, Gorbals Street, Nelson Street, Clyde Viaduct (Glasgow Central), Saltmarket and Bell Street. The work improves the resilience of these vital rail links as well as the appearance of these visible parts of the city infrastructure. • 🧑🎓 Great to visit the Risk Factory in Edinburgh to see their newly upgraded railway safety scenario, which we've helped to update and improve. It’s a fantastic facility for kids to learn live skills and hear about the dangers of playing on the railway. Our very own Jeremy Spence, route delivery director for Network Rail Scotland, spoke about his visit and the vital work that the Risk Factory does. • A series of hard-hitting films showing the catastrophic consequences of trespassing on the railway have been created by Network Rail and the British Transport Police. It’s part of a new ‘Stay Off the Tracks’ campaign, encouraging people to respect the railway boundary, as a survey reveals more than a third (37%) of people in Scotland think it’s safe to walk on railway tracks if no trains are coming. The videos feature first responders collaborating with film industry professionals to recreate the sights, sounds and impacts they encounter when dealing with life-threatening injuries caused by electricity. The railway’s overhead power lines carry electricity at 25,000 volts, and moving too close to them can cause severe or fatal injuries. There were 1,357 trespassing incidents in Scotland last year, down 12% from 1,540 the previous year. An increase in the number of incidents is typically recorded after the clocks go forward to British Summer Time. As well as the devastating impact on human lives, around 19,000 incidents in the UK last year caused 750,000 minutes’ worth of train delays and £75 million in direct costs to the taxpayer. Anyone who witnesses trespassing on the railway is urged to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 999 in an emergency. People also risk accidentally coming into contact with live overhead wires through activities such as fishing, using kites, taking photos with selfie sticks, or using gardening tools in close proximity to the electrified railway. • 🏗️ Network Rail Scotland replaced the railway bridge over the A727 East Kilbride Road at Busby in a £1.8m project to make it stronger and more resilient to vehicle collisions. 🙌 Thanks to our neighbours and road users for their patience during this vital project and a huge well done to our contractor Story Contracting Limited for their hard work on this job.
