The Prudence Trust has long been proud to support YoungMinds, which provides much needed support and advice for young people and families of young people struggling with their mental health. YoungMinds is a hugely important voice both of, and for, young people. We are sorry to see the organisation having to make difficult decisions amidst a tough funding climate. Its leadership are reaching out to their networks on LinkedIn to ask if their partners will look out for roles that could make use of the talents of YoungMinds staff looking for jobs - and we could not be more in support of that.
We want to update you on us. It’s been an important year for us. Like lots of charities we have been looking at how we can adapt and make sure we are set up in the best possible way to continue with the vital services and support that young people need, now and in the future. One of the outcomes of this work has been taking the difficult decision to reduce the size of our organisation. No matter what, we’ll support young people and families through our Parents Helpline and online information and advice. We will also make sure young people’s voices are at the heart of influencing change in the systems and services that should be there to help them. We want to reassure any young person, parent or carer who follows us that we’re here for you whenever you need us. We want to say thank you to all those brilliant colleagues who are sadly leaving YoungMinds. We know they will go on to new and exciting futures. We also want to say thank you to our partners and supporters. Without you, our work would be impossible. More than ever, we’re fighting for a world where no young person feels alone with their mental health.

The Prudence Trust has supported a number of early support hubs – open access, community-based advice and mental health support services that make it easy for young people to self-refer for holistic support across a range of issues and needs in their lives – mental health, sexual health, skills-based support and more. This is the type of support young people say they want – welcoming, co-designed, non-clinical feeling services they can drop into without the need for a referral or prolonged wait for help. We are proud to partner with Youth Access 42nd Street Charity Cranstoun MAP Youth Charity Centre 33 Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Creative Youth Network No Limits Catch22 who are championing and providing life-changing early intervention services for young people. There is a substantial body of evidence for the effectiveness of early support hubs, both here in the UK and globally. That's why we endorse the #FundtheHubsblueprint which sets out a roadmap on the development and implementation of Young Futures hubs in every local area, building on the current 60 existing services across the country. “The distance children are allowed to roam at the age of eight has been estimated to have fallen from six miles to just 300 yards over four generations”. This inquiry report released a couple of weeks ago by the Raising the Nation Play Commission should compel reflection. It lays out how a combination of no ball games culture and disinvestment in quality spaces and prioritisation of play at a policy level, among other drivers, has squeezed play out of many children’s experience of growing up. The importance of childhood play is often underemphasized but there is good evidence supporting its huge benefits across many aspects of health and achievement. We support The Raising the Nation Play Commission and Centre for Young Lives in their call for a National Play Strategy. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/exCf5NBr
We’ve launched our interim report from our Raising the Nation Play Commission, packed full of ideas for taking down the barriers that prevent play. Great to see the report picked up by the Today Programme, 5Live, LBC, Good Morning Britain, the Telegraph and Mirror this morning. See the full report here. https://lnkd.in/exCf5NBr

Today the Children and Young People's Mental Health Coalition (CYPMHC), one of our grantees, has released a new report ‘A step towards change’ bringing together the perspectives of frontline charities and organisations across the sector on government policies on young people’s mental health. The view across the sector is clear that while commitments to date are a step in the right direction, success relies enormously on implementation, sufficient resourcing and workforce. This is why we have recently backed the #FutureMindsCampaign and we support the corresponding calls in this report for: 👉A review into the causes of the rise in prevalence in children and young people’s mental health 👉Increased investment in children and young people's mental health 👉A children and young people’s mental health workforce plan
Ten years have passed since the publication of Future in Mind, the blueprint for transforming the children’s mental health system. However, the scale of crisis facing the children’s mental health system remains bigger than ever. The establishment of a new government has brought renewed commitment to babies, children and young people’s mental health through a series of commitments and a pledge to raise the healthiest generation of children and achieve parity of esteem between physical and mental health. In light of this, we surveyed members of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition in order to understand the impact of these new policies on the children and young people’s mental health landscape. Members welcomed the new policies and told us that Young Futures hubs, the Child Poverty Strategy and mental health professionals in schools are a financial priority. They were clear that the policies are a step in the right direction accountability, resourcing and workforce will be key 🗣️ That's why we're calling for the following, in line with the #FutureMindsCampaign: 🟣 An independent review into the rise in prevalence 🟣Increased investment in CYP mental health 🟣A CYP mental health workforce plan Read our report here: https://lnkd.in/eQrPec7a

The Prudence Trust is proud to back the #FutureMindsCampaign which calls on the UK Government for urgent reform to boost children and young people’s mental health support. As a grant-maker we see the very significant challenges young people and parents are facing and the immense pressure on statutory and voluntary services. This is not just a human crisis. It is one of the biggest economic challenges of our time. Better investment in prevention and early intervention makes sense for our country. Three quarters of mental health problems are established by age 24, so adolescence is when the biggest difference can be made. It is also cost effective to get young people the help they need, early, so they can thrive at school and in work. It doesn’t always need to be seeing a doctor. Help in communities is effective and low cost. Today, the #FutureMindsCampaign launches a widely endorsed economic analysis highlighting well-evidenced solutions and the benefits of reforming and investing in children and young people’s mental health. We stand alongside our partners YoungMinds Centre for Young Lives Centre for Mental Health Children and Young People's Mental Health Coalition (CYPMHC) and many others across the sector in calling for – 👉Increased investment in children and young people's mental health 👉The full roll out of Mental Health Support Teams by the end of this Parliament 👉Open access mental health services in every community 👉A comprehensive children and young people’s workforce plan 👉A review into the causes of the rise in prevalence in children and young people’s mental health 👉Increased council funding to support investment in prevention and early intervention Read more here: https://lnkd.in/efviqkby
