If your household is heading for exam season, you're probably living in a blur of highlighters and flashcards. It can be a difficult time for young people, who are juggling the day-to-day demands of revision with pressure around results. Exam stress is normal for young people, but there are ways to manage it - and helping them doesn't have to be complicated. Here are five simple things to keep in mind.👇 👉 Reassure them - make sure they know you will be proud of them no matter the outcome. 👉 Healthy choices - help them stick to a bedtime routine and make sure they have time to wind down before bed. Encourage them to eat a balanced diet and drink plenty of water. 🥗 👉 Talk about exam stress - encourage them to talk about their feelings around exams and remind them that it's normal to feel nervous. 👉 Be flexible - it isn’t always easy, but try to stay calm yourself and be flexible with tasks and chores. 👉 Find a balance - taking a break from revision is important. Encourage them to find time to relax. Our Wellbeing Toolkit has a section on exam stress - it's filled with advice, resources and videos for young people: https://lnkd.in/ecGanG_J And if it's all getting too much for them, we're here. They can find out how and where to contact us on our website: www.centre33.org.uk 🧡

Supporting young people in Cambridgeshire with their practical issues and emotional needs since 1981.
About us
Too many young people tell us they have no-one to talk to. At Centre 33, we are here to listen and to help. We are a young people’s charity, working across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, specialising in supporting young people of secondary age up to the age of 25. Centre 33 was established in 1981 and still holds true to its founding principles of: - young person centred - services that are available to all young people on a self-referral basis - capable of responding to complex need - quality and good outcomes for young people. Our current values commit to being: inclusive and specialist, supportive and non-judgemental, collaborative and accountable. Our vision is that every young person is listened to and respected for who they are; and that they receive the support to enable them to be who they want to be. In order to do this, our mission is to support young people with their practical and emotional needs. We do this through delivery of safe, free, accessible and professional services that listen to, support and inspire young people to become who they want to be. We feel it is important to support young people with their presenting needs. The majority of the work we do supports young people to: • Be emotionally healthy • Be sexual healthy • Be safely housed • Be in employment / meaningful education/training • Have improved financial situations • Reduce the negative impact of their caring responsibilities (if they are young carers) We have five main hubs (Cambridge, Ely, Wisbech, Peterborough, Huntingdon) but also work within the community including local schools and community venues (such as libraries, GP surgeries etc.).

At Centre 33, we know that sharing stories about how we help young people is one of the most important ways of raising awareness of our support. It makes others feel less alone, brings attention to important issues, reminds us to talk about what we’re facing - and to ask for help. 🧡 If you've received our support in the past we'd love to hear from you - however long ago it was. You can share your story however you choose - that might be anonymously, in writing or in a voice note. Showing the impact of what we do makes a huge difference to today's young people. “That support made a real difference to me... Having that was ultimately what then did propel me onto university.” 🧡 Brilliant to see young adult carer and Centre 33 volunteer Holly give evidence to the Health and Social Care Committee today around adult social care reform. Holly reflected on the huge impact of support from our young carers team, the strain of juggling caring and studying and what needs to be in place for young carers and young adult carers as they move through life. A powerful discussion and important watch - you can find it in full at https://lnkd.in/deX7udDT 🔗

We're so pleased to see #Tech4YoungCarers expanded across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. We see first-hand how having a laptop and access to the internet reduces barriers and unlocks new possibilities for young carers and young adult carers. Technology is essential when it comes to keeping up with work and studies and reducing isolation. We're proud to work with the Digital Poverty Alliance on #Tech4YoungCarers to keep young carers connected.
Today, we are able to expand our #Tech4YoungCarers initiative to cover the whole of #Cambridgeshire and #Peterborough. This vital project, funded by East of England Broadband Network (E2BN) will support #YoungCarers with a laptop to keep, and digital skills support, enabling them to connect and thrive in their education and beyond. Pippa Heylings, MP for South Cambridgeshire, recognised the importance of expanding the programme, noting “Young carers dedicate themselves to supporting their loved ones, yet too often they face barriers that restrict their own opportunities. In today’s digital-first world, having a laptop is not a luxury – it is a necessity for education, employment, and staying connected. Expanding the Tech4YoungCarers programme across Cambridgeshire ensures that these young people are not left behind. I commend the Digital Poverty Alliance, Centre 33, and Cambridgeshire County Council for their leadership in improving digital access, and I encourage businesses and organisations to support this initiative. Together, we can provide young carers with the resources they need to succeed.” #Technology #DigitalDivide #YoungCarers

Young carers tell us they need a break. Juggling their caring roles with school, hobbies and friends is not easy - they don’t have time to prepare for their exams, don’t get enough sleep and are often stressed. Having time to themselves is crucial - even a few hours can make a real difference. ⏳ Today is #YoungCarersActionDay, and this year’s theme of Give Me A Break highlights the need for young carers to have time to rest and recharge, and for schools and employers to provide support. New Carers Trust research shows 40% of young carers feel too worried about the person they care for to take a break - they need our support. 🧡 These words from our Young Carers Advisory Board make clear just how important a break is. As well as sharing the impact on their wellbeing, they also listed simple ways that schools can support young carers. At Centre 33 we proudly operate five early support hubs across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The model is built on solid evidence that early, open-access and holistic support can make a huge difference to a young person. Young people tell us this all the time. We are excited by the Children and Young People's Mental Health Coalition (CYPMHC) Blueprint and fully endorse its recommendations. You can read about our work and that of many other excellent organisations in the Blueprint report below. Young people everywhere deserve this important investment in their futures. 👇 https://lnkd.in/ea6jhYxf #FundTheHubs #FundTheHubsBlueprint
The Government’s commitment to Young Futures hubs provides a key opportunity to provide community mental health support for children and young people. Young people tell us that open access, flexible, early support based in the community is what they want and need. So, to support the Government with the design and development of the programme, we have produced ‘A blueprint for Young Futures hubs’. The blueprint was created alongside our #FundtheHubs partners Centre for Mental Health, YoungMinds, BACP, Mind, Black Thrive and based on insights from young people, existing hub providers and the mental health sector. Our blueprint calls on the Government to set out a roadmap to deliver a hub in every local area, using the early support hub model to shape the programme. We make a series of recommendations to help them achieve this, including: 👉Committing to a multi-year funding package for roll out in the upcoming Spending Review 👉Carrying out a comprehensive cross government consultation on delivering open access support for children and young people 👉Taking a cross departmental approach throughout the programme’s development 👉Developing joint commissioning guidance for local areas on implementation 👉Designing a clear and consistent outcomes framework with existing hub providers 👉Setting out a workforce development plan to support the roll out 👉Implementing a learning and quality practice mechanism to support development Read our report here: https://lnkd.in/ea6jhYxf
