  • Port of Nigg is proud to support the early launch of the Nigg-Cromarty ferry service this year, partnering with Highland Ferries to extend operations by an additional two months. Starting in the first week of April, the extended service will provide vital transport links for local communities, businesses, and visitors - helping to boost connectivity and tourism in the region. Rory Gunn, Facilities Director at Port of Nigg, said: “As a key part of the Ross-Shire community, we are proud to support this initiative and ensure the ferry service is available for an extended period. Port of Nigg, along with the supply chain businesses onsite, is a major employer in the region, and we recognise the importance of reliable transport links for both locals and visitors. We also appreciate the challenges facing local businesses surrounding the Cromarty Firth, and hope that this initiative will give them a welcome boost.” Dougie Robertson, Owner of Highland Ferries, added: “We are excited about this development and our growing partnership with Port of Nigg. This funding allows us to start the service earlier in the year, which not only benefits local commuters but also enhances tourism opportunities in the region.” Cllr Ken Gowans, Chair of Highland Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee added: “We are pleased to be supporting this initiative to extend the ferry’s operating season, and confirm that as a scheduled service the extra two months are eligible to be included in the concessionary ticket scheme." We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this extended service and continuing our support for the sustainable growth of the region. • We’re pleased to announce plans to further enhance the Port of Nigg, supported by up to £10 million from Highlands and Islands Enterprise, as part of a £30.5 million investment in our Inner East Quay. This development will create a 230m heavy-duty quayside and introduce roll-on roll-off capability, increasing capacity to support Scotland’s growing offshore wind sector. Acknowledging the facility’s significance and being part of the Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport, Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes MSP said: “The Port of Nigg is strategically important to the growth and success of the offshore wind sector. An investment of this nature sends a clear signal to investors that Scotland is open for business, and The Scottish Government and our partners stand ready to help unleash the enormous economic benefits of our offshore wind industry.” Recognised as a prime location for offshore wind manufacturing and assembly, Nigg has handled over 3.5GW of offshore wind assets - strengthening our leading role at the centre of the industry. Since acquiring Nigg in 2011, Global Energy Group has invested over £120 million to establish a world-class offshore wind superhub. Chairman Roy MacGregor added: “We welcome this significant investment from HIE and the Scottish Government, which reinforces their commitment to strengthening Scotland’s offshore wind supply chain. Nigg is strategically positioned to support Scotland’s future offshore wind projects, stimulating sustainable job creation and long-term economic prosperity for the Highlands.” Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/dYTq8JqE #OffshoreWind #PortExpansion #GreenFreeport Image Credit: Seagreen Wind Energy Ltd
