We’re pleased to announce plans to further enhance the Port of Nigg, supported by up to £10 million from Highlands and Islands Enterprise, as part of a £30.5 million investment in our Inner East Quay. This development will create a 230m heavy-duty quayside and introduce roll-on roll-off capability, increasing capacity to support Scotland’s growing offshore wind sector. Acknowledging the facility’s significance and being part of the Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport, Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes MSP said: “The Port of Nigg is strategically important to the growth and success of the offshore wind sector. An investment of this nature sends a clear signal to investors that Scotland is open for business, and The Scottish Government and our partners stand ready to help unleash the enormous economic benefits of our offshore wind industry.” Recognised as a prime location for offshore wind manufacturing and assembly, Nigg has handled over 3.5GW of offshore wind assets - strengthening our leading role at the centre of the industry. Since acquiring Nigg in 2011, Global Energy Group has invested over £120 million to establish a world-class offshore wind superhub. Chairman Roy MacGregor added: “We welcome this significant investment from HIE and the Scottish Government, which reinforces their commitment to strengthening Scotland’s offshore wind supply chain. Nigg is strategically positioned to support Scotland’s future offshore wind projects, stimulating sustainable job creation and long-term economic prosperity for the Highlands.” Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/dYTq8JqE #OffshoreWind #PortExpansion #GreenFreeport Image Credit: Seagreen Wind Energy Ltd

📣 Fantastic news today on a £10 million investment at Port of Nigg to support its drive to become a world class offshore wind superhub. The investment from Highlands and Islands Enterprise will create a new heavy-duty quayside and roll-on roll-off capability at the Inner East Quay. The announcement comes hot on the heels of Port of Cromarty Firth securing £55 million from the Floating Offshore Wind Manufacturing Investment Scheme (FLOWMIS) to establish the UK’s first custom-built integration hub for floating offshore wind farm construction. 🗣️Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport Chief Executive Calum MacPherson said: “These are the types of investment that will help turn our vision of establishing a world-class hub for the renewables sector here in the Highlands into a reality. “These two developments will provide the facilities that trigger further inward investment and benefits right across the supply chain. They will create significant jobs during the construction phases, but more than that, deliver long-term opportunities for skilled well-paid jobs. “We’re delighted to welcome these two significant announcements. The green freeport is gaining momentum at an incredible rate, and we’re confident of even more positive news to come in the weeks and months ahead.” https://lnkd.in/eFUwacMS
