From 2 - 3 April, a number of MCS certified installers joined the ‘Meet the Installer’ zone at Solar & Storage Live London. The event attracts a large audience from manufacturers to property owners and continues to strengthen relationships across the solar and storage industry. On the first day of the event, our CEO, Ian Rippin, joined the installers in the zone. It was great to talk about their businesses, future goals and their journey to gaining MCS certification. egg SOBERS 246 ELECTRICAL LIMITED Solar Orb Energy LYONS TRADING LIMITED Greenio Ltd Ledda Electrical Contractors #Installers #Certification #Event #Solar

How is Wiltshire doing in it’s transition to small-scale renewables? Wiltshire has recorded 26,313 MCS-certified installations, meaning 12.23% of households in the area, more than 1 in 10, have an MCS certified installation. 4,206 of these installations were completed between February 2024 and 2025, a 19% increase from the previous year. MCS installations and contractor data is freely available for everyone to view and use on the MCS Data Dashboard now. Updating in near-real-time, it provides a dynamic picture of the uptake of solar, heat pumps, battery storage, and other small-scale renewables across the UK. We have partnered with The Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers' Federation (SNIPEF) to enhance renewable technology training for Scotland's plumbing and heating apprentices. This collaboration aims to equip apprentices with the necessary skills to meet the growing demand for low-carbon and sustainable technologies. The initiative underscores the profession's commitment to environmental stewardship and aligns with government sustainability goals. Ian Rippin, MCS CEO, said: “With more consumers turning to home-grown energy to heat and power their homes, it’s crucial that there is a skilled installer base delivering high-quality installations against industry-recognised standards. Partnering with SNIPEF to integrate renewables into the Scottish Plumbing Apprentice of the Year competition is a crucial step in developing a skilled workforce for the future. Find out more 👉https://bit.ly/3E44jY3
SNIPEF has joined forces with MCS to make renewable technology a core focus of the Scottish Plumbing Apprentice of the Year (SPAY) competition. MCS will assume the sponsorship of the competition’s renewable technologies category – reinforcing the importance of decarbonisation for the future of the industry. Fiona Hodgson, Chief Executive of SNIPEF, said: “As Scotland moves towards a low-carbon future, the role of the plumbing and heating profession has never been more critical. The transition to renewable heating solutions requires a skilled workforce, and this partnership with MCS ensures that apprentices are equipped with the expertise needed to deliver the next generation of sustainable heating systems." 📢 MCS has published an updated version of MCS 020 following a consultation in January 2024 📢 This update was driven by the government’s consultation and subsequent announcement on amendments to existing Permitted Development Rights (PDR) that apply in England to: - Remove the 1m boundary rule, enabling heat pumps to be installed within 1m of the property boundary. - Increase the size limit of the heat pump for dwelling houses from 0.6m3 to 1.5m3. - Double the number of heat pumps permitted, from one to two for detached dwelling houses. - Support the rollout of air-to-air heat pumps that can also provide a cooling function. The MCS 020 Standard is now divided into two parts: one for air source heat pumps and another for small wind turbines (there are no changes to the requirements for small wind turbines). Compliance with this update is mandatory for installers seeking to install air source heat pumps under Permitted Development from the date of implementation - 20 September 2025.
