Our Mission is to be the definitive community-powered brand that builds decorating confidence by inspiring and supporting all decorators with their projects. Lick is a community-powered decorating movement. We are a force for change in the home decor space with a vision to transform the industry for our decorators and for the planet. Lick was founded in 2019 by Lucas London and Sam Bradley - both experienced startup entrepreneurs. The business has raised over $29m since inception. OMERS Ventures lead our Series A round in June 2021 with participation from existing investors Felix Capital and contributions from entrepreneurs and PE investors including Magnus Rausing, Alex Chesterman and Kathaka, the family office of Caroline Rupert of Richemont. We’re a business that believes in building confidence in our decorators. Seeing their bright ideas and making them happen. We do this by giving our do-er uppers access to inspiration, advice and how-to guidance from our experts and wider community. As well as making our range of (water-based, low VOC) paint, (FSC-certified) wallpaper, blinds and supplies with real people and real homes in mind. It's why we curate the colours in our product ranges, it's why we have an expert team of colour consultants on-hand to help with any decorating question, big or small, it's why we're building a supportive community of decorators to inspire each other with their projects, and it’s why we are rethinking how technology can transform this category. We're on a mission to transform the $1trillon global home decor category, and our sights are set on scale, this means expanding our product offering, launching new sustainability initiatives, and growing our already thriving community of home decorators across the globe. Join the Lick decorating movement... We recently celebrated turning 5, and we’re super excited to launch our crowdfunding campaign - giving you the chance to join the Lick decorating movement! In 2020, we launched as a DTC online business, but following huge growth we knew we had to increase our distribution to enable our customers to buy Lick when and where they wanted. Our partnerships with huge retailers such as B&Q, Screwfix, and Travis Perkins have allowed us to transition into an omnichannel brand that continues to grow. Throughout our journey, we have always focussed on being a community-driven brand, so our crowdfunding campaign will allow us to continue to grow - with the commitment of our customers and supporters. As People Operations Manager, it has been a pleasure to work alongside a team that is truly invested in Lick’s success and to have a positive impact on their experience while working here. Our B Corp certification highlights not only our commitment to sustainability and our community but also the people who have brought the vision to life - our team. - Our benefits offering has a key focus on well-being so our team are continually supported, from private health insurance through Vitality, to flexible working hours, and a generous annual leave allowance (40 days off per year including bank holidays!) - We give everyone access to what’s happening across the company, regardless of department, through our weekly company-wide stand-ups, monthly deep dives, and quarterly OKR sessions. - We’re invested in seeing our team develop, our newly revamped Performance & Development Reviews, which happen annually, provide clear guidelines on what is expected of each individual and how they can develop and progress in their roles. - We want our team members to form strong & genuine relationships with their teammates. But what began as a lean DTC business has grown into something far more ambitious—and it’s all been powered by our incredible in-house technology team. Since those early days, we’ve evolved from a single-channel e-commerce brand into a truly omnichannel business. Today, you can find Lick not only online, but also in leading retailers like Screwfix and B&Q. Behind the scenes, Licks internal tech has driven this transformation—from smart, automated drop-shipping models to building the only digital screen experience for a paint brand in B&Q stores, helping customers explore colour in a totally new and immersive way. The technology powers every part of the business: logistics, operations, customer experience, and even inspiration. We’ve always believed that thoughtful, innovative use of technology can remove friction from the decorating experience—and now we’re proving it at scale. Lick launched 5 years ago and over that timeframe the business has seen a hugely positive evolution yet we have proudly retained the core of what we set out to achieve. We saw that the industry was largely lacking consumer-led brands that were truly meeting modern consumers' needs and we wanted to solve that by creating a modern, sustainably-led brand that supported and inspired decorators and built confidence to turn houses into homes that were truly a personal reflection of each individual. Lick’s brand values today are centred around: ✅ Top quality, high-performing products 🎨 A pigment-rich curated colour palette 💡 The go-to for colour support, inspiration and knowledge 🌿 A sustainably-led, B-Corp certified business Currently, we have three brands; Lick for the DIY customer, LickPro for the professional decorator and LickTools a range of eco decorating tools. Each brand caters to different audiences and their needs from positioning to product range and services but all centred around these brand values. Our brand values have also been the backbone of some creative work that is truly industry-first and disruptive in a predominantly traditional and heritage industry. Some brand highlights: 🍅 We created a world-first Heinz Tomato Ketchup paint and the campaign saw global PR reach of 167 million+ impressions. 💥 We have created some epic brand campaigns and collaborations and worked with household names like MAC Cosmetics and Soho House & Co all with colour support and inspiration and style and design at the heart of their storytelling. 👀 Our first OOH campaign with a media mix of unmissable large formats and mass reach 6s and a wonderfully simple yet beautifully impactful creative all around the quality of our products. 👯 We have built an engaged community of 1M+ and growing rapidly. I joined Lick in January 2023 to lead the commercial transition from a pure DTC player to an omnichannel business and brand. It was already evident that the Lick brand resonated strongly with consumers and was building a powerful community. The rationale for moving to omnichannel was that, as brands scale, they must be present where their target consumers shop. Despite the growth of DTC, the majority of paint is still sold through traditional retail channels. The past few years have been incredibly rewarding. We are fortunate to be working with such strong partners, ensuring that we bring the best of the Lick brand to life in retail environments. Despite being a young brand, we have achieved numerous retail firsts, and through rapid innovation, Lick customers continue to benefit from the full brand and digital experience, wherever they shop. Our product ranges have evolved to adapt to retail environments and continue to grow while staying true to our core values of sustainability, innovation, and the highest quality. Our value chain has rapidly grown and adapted to manage the needs of our partners while maintaining our commitment to sustainability and efficiency. Our results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of our omnichannel strategy and the strength of our distribution.
