🚨 Swipe wrong 🚨 👩👧👦 Single parents looking for love on dating apps are being warned to beware of being targeted by child sex abusers. 🔦 Childlight Global Child Safety Institute have published new research which suggests men who sexually offend against children are: 🔺 Nearly four times more likely to subscribe to online dating apps than non-offenders 🔺 Use online dating sites twice as often than non-offenders. The findings are based on a survey of 5,000 men in the UK, US and Australia. Childlight East Asia hub director Professor Michael Salter, who co-wrote the research said: “Offenders may appear trustworthy, as they are more likely to have a child in their house, work with children, and have a higher education level. However, they are also much more likely to know other offenders, use online privacy tools and cryptocurrency to hide their actions.” Most dating sites don’t require proof of identity, so the institute is calling for: ✅ User verification processes ✅ Use of online tools to detect predatory behaviour ✅ Educational campaigns to raise awareness of online dangers The dating app research is part of the institute’s Searchlight report which analyses the multi-billion-dollar business of child exploitation. It reveals: ❌ Abusers are targeting children in crisis zones such as Ukraine ❌ The digital financial footprints left by abusers ❌ How child abuse gangs are evolving in the Philippines 🛡️ It also highlights the success of online shields which are blocking 3 million attempts to view child abuse images every week, evidence that technology facilitated child sexual exploitation and abuse is preventable. #AbuseIsPreventable 📊 Read the research https://lnkd.in/dGXiBNCb

An important campaign from The Hydrant Programme encouraging teenage boys to seek help if they are the victims of financially motivated sexual extortion 🔻
Today (20 March) a new campaign has launched from the National Crime Agency (NCA) aimed at teenage boys to tackle financially motivated sexual extortion (FMSE). Has someone you know been blackmailed after sharing a nude? It’s child sexual abuse and it’s not their fault if it happens to them. Reassure them that they have done the right thing by telling you and follow these 4 steps to take control: • Don’t pay • Stop contact and block • Report the account to the platform • Report to the police or to Child Exploitation Online Protection (CEOP) You can even find help to get nudes removed from online platforms. Learn more about how to talk to your child about this type of online blackmail: https://lnkd.in/eSPdNmbs National Crime Agency (NCA)
