  • ✏️ Childlight - Global Child Safety Institute is proud to announce the upcoming launch of the second edition of the terminology guidelines for the protection of children from sexual exploitation and abuse 📅 This comprehensive resource, to be unveiled in a global webinar on April 10, 2025, at 13:00 GMT, aims to improve the accuracy, sensitivity and consistency of language used in the fight against child sexual exploitation and abuse. 🚸 As ECPAT Research and Child Rights Monitoring Manager Andrea Varrella says: "Accurate and respectful language is essential to improving child protection responses and ensuring that children who have been subjected to sexual abuse and exploitation are treated with dignity and respect.” 🤝 As a partner involved in developing the guidelines, we know how much words matter when it comes to CSEA. We must avoid victim-blaming language and harmful terms that misrepresent the nature of abuse that children are subjected to every day.

Today (20 March) a new campaign has launched from the National Crime Agency (NCA) aimed at teenage boys to tackle financially motivated sexual extortion (FMSE). Has someone you know been blackmailed after sharing a nude? It’s child sexual abuse and it’s not their fault if it happens to them. Reassure them that they have done the right thing by telling you and follow these 4 steps to take control: • Don’t pay • Stop contact and block • Report the account to the platform • Report to the police or to Child Exploitation Online Protection (CEOP) You can even find help to get nudes removed from online platforms. Learn more about how to talk to your child about this type of online blackmail: https://lnkd.in/eSPdNmbs National Crime Agency (NCA)

  • 📲 It's a huge moment today as social media companies risk fines of up to £18 million or 10% of their global turnover if they fail to protect children from online sexual exploitation and abuse on their platforms, under the UK’s Online Safety Act. 🛑 Such steps are important as part of shift to a prevention-focused approach that stops CSEA before it begins, saving children from irreversible harm rather than scrambling to deal with the awful consequences. 🚸 Because, while Childlight - Global Child Safety Institute estimates that over 300 million children annually are subjected to technology-facilitated sexual exploitation and abuse, this problem is preventable, not inevitable. #Childrencan’twait

  • 🚨 We welcome today's call from The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for urgent global action to cut off the illicit money flows driving technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation and abuse. Criminals are currently exploiting encryption, anonymous financial transactions, and weak international cooperation to evade detection. Childlight's research shows 300 million children worldwide are affected by TFCSEA with the crime growing at an alarming rate. In a new report, published today, the FATF sets out practical steps that governments, financial institutions, and technology companies can take to disrupt these financial networks and prevent the exploitation of children. Welcoming the report Childlight CEO Paul Stanfield said: “Spotting the telltale digital breadcrumbs that perpetrators leave behind and cutting off the illegal flows of money driving this global pandemic is crucial to dismantle exploitation networks and save millions of children from lifelong harm.   “Technology-facilitated sexual exploitation and abuse of children is not just an atrocity — it’s an industry generating billions of dollars in profits, and our research suggests it affects ten children every second.” #publichealth #onlinechildsafey #FollowTheMoney
