Navy Yard Charleston is establishing the Charleston Design District, a hub for designers to create and source premium home furnishings. Home furnishings companies Kravet, F. Schumacher & Co., and Textures Nashville have signed leases for first-to-market showroom locations in the District. They will join established Charleston brands, such as The Urban Electric Co., Fritz Porter Design Collective, and Smithey Ironware Company, bringing together showrooms and innovative maker spaces to create a collective design guild and resource-rich hub for interior design ideation and creation. The District will feature up to 150,000 square feet of design showroom spaces and a range of dining experiences, including an 8,200-square-foot rooftop restaurant by acclaimed Charleston restaurateur Steve Palmer of The Indigo Road Hospitality Group. “The formation of the Charleston Design District is, in part, a response to the diverse design and creative community that has amassed throughout the neighborhood over the past few years. We want to foster and grow that community to create the most extensive and innovative selection of interior furnishings in the coastal Carolinas." –Michael Phillips, President of Jamestown Read the full announcement here: https://lnkd.in/e3XK4YSP

Last week, Chelsea Market celebrated National Oreo Day with special Oreo-themed dessert offerings from tenants. While known today for its food hall and market, Chelsea Market was originally a factory for Nabisco, where the Oreo was invented in 1912. The special offerings included giant Oreo cakes from L’Arte Del Gelato, black sesame soft serve with Oreo crumble from Seed + Mill, fried Oreos from Creamline, and Oreo cookies and cream mini doughnuts from Doughnuttery. Fox 5 (WNYW-TV New York) reporter Christal Young visited the market for a live segment on Good Day New York, featuring the creations and interviewing the makers behind them.
