During the inaugural #CGIARScienceWeek in Nairobi, AGRA signed two landmark agreements with CGIAR and the Inter-American Institute For Cooperation on Agriculture (Washington) -IICA, marking a major step forward in global agricultural innovation and collaboration. 🤝 AGRA’s new MoU with CGIAR will fast-track science-based solutions for smallholder farmers—scaling innovations, strengthening policy environments, and transforming food systems across Africa. “This is the first step toward integrating science and delivery,” said AGRA President Alice Ruhweza. 🤝 Meanwhile, IICA Director General Manuel Otero visited AGRA to deepen collaboration between Africa and Latin America. With shared commitments to innovation, productivity, and sustainability, IICA and AGRA are building bridges between science, public policy, and regions critical to global food security. Ismahane Elouafi, Executive Managing Director of CGIAR, welcomed the new agreement, saying, “This MoU is a strong statement of our resolve to go further together in co-developing solutions and cultivating inclusive, sustainable food system reform across the continent.” While Dr. Otero noted, “Technology is a powerful weapon to increase productivity and protect our natural resources.” Together, these partnerships reaffirm AGRA’s resolve to champion inclusive, climate-resilient agri-food systems—driven by science, innovation, and shared purpose. #FoodSystems #CGIARScienceWeek #GlobalPartnerships #SmallholderFarmers

H.E Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki, Special Envoy of the African Union for Food Systems, paid a courtesy call on AGRA President Ms. Alice Ruhweza. He congratulated her on her new position and assured her of his cooperation in championing food systems transformation in Africa. The President thanked the AU Special Envoy for the visit and for the goodwill message and also for being an effective voice of Africa at G7 and G20, among other global fora. The two principals discussed ways of working closely together on advancing the implementation of the AU Kampala CAADP Declaration, Strategy and Plan of Action, follow up on the Africa Food Security and Trade Initiative (food baskets and trade corridors), the Technical Cooperation Collaborative in support of implementing the COP28 UAE Declaration on Sustainable Food and Agriculture in the lead up to CoP30 in Brazil, the Africa Food Systems Forum (AFSF2025) in Senegal. In the context of the currently challenged international finance architecture, they shared the sense of urgency and the view that Africa must step to own and drive its own socio-economic development. They agreed to strengthen collaboration with multiple strategic partners beginning with the African Union Commission, AUDA NEPAD and RECs to get governments and private sector invest robustly in agriculture and food systems to be able to reap tremendous benefits for people and planet. #AGRA #FoodSystems

Quincewood, a Tanzanian AgTech company, is on a mission to restore dignity to farming. As Fatma Fernandes stated at the Seed Stakeholders Learning Event, it's about more than just efficiency; it's about empowering those who feed our nations. In #Tanzania, where agriculture is the backbone of the economy, farmers face challenges with counterfeit seeds and unreliable markets. Quincewood's innovative solution, the eHakiki Verification System, is addressing these issues head-on. eHakiki, a government-backed platform adopted by the Tanzania Official Seed Certification Institute (TOSCI), allows farmers to verify the authenticity of their seeds via a simple mobile interaction. By scanning a QR code and inputting a voucher ID, farmers receive immediate confirmation, ensuring they plant with confidence. Join the #CGIARScienceWeek conversation and contribute to the advancement of agricultural science for smallholder farmers.
