NYK Offers Ship Tour to Guests from Jacksonville Japanese School🚢 In March, NYK welcomed students and parents from the Jacksonville Japanese School to board Grand Phoenix a Vehicles Carrier that was moored at the port of Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Japanese School opened in 2011 in the U.S. state of Florida for children who can speak and understand Japanese at their appropriate grade levels, regardless of nationality, in addition to adults who have an interest in the language and culture. Since 2017, the school has received assistance from the government of Japan. The ship tour was made possible through a partnership between the Honorary Consul of Japan in Jacksonville and a 54-year veteran of the Maritime Industry, Mr. Roy Schleicher, and NYK. On the day of the event, we conducted a ship tour with various support from the Jacksonville Port Authority, accompanied by our employees. The participating children were guided by the ship's crew and had the opportunity to see areas of the vessel that are typically not accessible, such as the bridge and cargo hold. It was a valuable experience, and they had a wonderful time. NYK Concludes Contract for Construction and Charter of Dual-fuel Methanol VLCC for Idemitsu Tanker NYK’s first VLCC that can use methanol or traditional fuel oil for propulsion This vessel will be a Malacca max next-generation environment-friendly VLCC that NYK has been designing with Idemitsu Tanker, IINO Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd., and Nippon Shipyard. Methanol is a fuel expected to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It can reduce carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by about 15% compared to when heavy oil is used. NYK Promotes Woman to Chief Engineer for First Time 🎉 Advancing a workplace where a diverse range of people can shine both on land and at sea On April 1, Miki Yano became the first woman in NYK’s nearly 140-year history to be promoted to the rank of chief engineer. Since joining NYK in 2011, Yano has gained experience on board LNG carriers, car carriers, and other vessels. She has also been active in many fields, including using the knowledge and skills she has gained on board to support the operation of cruise ships at an office on land. Upon hearing the news, Chief Engineer Yano commented: "Becoming a chief engineer was a goal for me. Now that I have achieved it, this moment will be a new start. I will continue to work hard to acquire skills and knowledge and aim to become a chief engineer trusted by those around me." NYK Energy Ocean Sets Sail🎊 NYK Group becomes one of the world’s largest operators of LPG carriers For more details, please check the following link🔽 https://lnkd.in/gcf_g3tK On April 1, NYK acquired 80% of the shares of NYK Energy Ocean Corporation (NEO), a new company that commenced operations after taking over all of ENEOS Ocean’s shipping business with the exception of its crude-oil tanker business. NEO now operates 47 vessels, including 18 LPG carriers, 18 chemical and product tankers, and 11 cargo ships, all taken over from ENEOS Ocean. NYK Invests in IOVTEC Acquiring insights from one of Asia’s largest offshore wind power markets For more details, please check the following link🔽 https://lnkd.in/gbGutWNG On March 24, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) invested in IOVTEC Co., Ltd. (IOVTEC), a Taiwanese offshore wind integrated service company, through subscription of newly issued stock shares. IOVTEC and its subsidiary companies, collectively known as the IOG Group, provide comprehensive services for offshore wind projects in Taiwan and across Asia. These services include marine surveys, construction support, vessel chartering, management and repair, talent cultivation, and the operation and maintenance of offshore wind farms, spanning the entire wind-farm life cycle from the early stages of project development site investigation through the construction period and into long-term operation and maintenance. Through this investment, NYK and IOVTEC will contribute to developing Japan’s offshore wind power industry based on their knowledge, know-how, track records, and networks to further strengthen their position in the Taiwan market.
