A business delegation from Iceland organized by Business Iceland took part in the official state visit of the President of Iceland, Halla Tomasdottir to Norway last week. The business delegation participated in a number of events with the President of Iceland alongside the Crown Prince of Norway. Ragnheidur H. Magnusdottir from Nordic Ignite took part in an event at BI Norwegian Business School, giving a presentation on responsible leadership in a world full of challenges. At the event "Norway and Iceland Seminar: Shaping the Future of the Green Economy", which took place in Oslo, the following from the Icelandic business delegation participated in a panel discussion: Hörður Arnarson from Landsvirkjun Nott Thorberg from Green by Iceland Sara Lind Guðbergsdóttir from Climeworks Edda Aradottir from Carbfix In Trondheim, at the event "Norway and Iceland Seminar: Pioneers of Innovation in the Blue Economy", the following from the Icelandic business delegation participated in a panel: Thor Sigfusson PhD from Iceland Ocean Cluster Arni Sigurdsson from Marel Fertram Sigurjonsson from Kerecis Jens Thordarson from GeoSalmo Birgitta Guðrún Schepsky Ásgrímsdóttir from Sea Growth Sveinn Sigurður Jóhannesson from GreenFish In addition, the business delegation participated in a networking event organized by The Norwegian-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce and Business Iceland on board the MS Brisen, with Daði Kristófersson, Icelandic Minister of Finance and Economics, and Vegard Grøslie Wennesland, State Secretary at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries. The Embassy of Iceland in Oslo supported and collaborated with Innovation Norway, Business Iceland, the Norwegian-Icelandic Chamber of Commerce, and BI Norwegian Business School in the planning and execution of the events held in connection with the state visit. Two Ravens VC, Crowberry Capital, Frumtak Ventures, Kría - Iceland Venture Initiative and Omega Ventures had a ton of fun last night bringing together 12 of the top Icelandic seed and Series A startups, 4 Icelandic VCs, and 25 US VCs together to learn about the Icelandic entrepreneurial landscape. Big thanks to Fertram Sigurjonsson for sharing his epic story about how he took Kerecis from startup to a $1.3BN exit in 2023. I have had the pleasure of doing business in Iceland since 2006. I co-founded Verne Global, which went on to become the first large-scale data center there, powered by 100% clean energy, and I've invested in several fantastic Icelandic companies (CCP Games, Hefring Marine, Treble Technologies, Rexby, LearnCove, etc.). One thing I have learned is that Iceland's startup founders punch way above their weight. For a country of only 360,000 people, it's remarkable how many venture-backed startups there are, including two recently exited unicorns (Kerecis and Alvotech).
