🔍 JUST REVIEWED: The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) Guideline on AI in Arbitration (2025) is finally here! 🤖⚖️ Happy to say that Vishwam Jindal and I have done this together. This framework tries to balance AI innovation with arbitration integrity, covering: Benefits: Enhanced efficiency in legal research, data analysis, and addressing "inequality of arms" 💪 Risks: "Black box" problems, confidentiality concerns, and algorithmic bias 🚨 Implementation: Clear templates for procedural orders and party agreements 📝 While it's a start, the guidelines could benefit from more technical specificity, practical examples, and AI literacy standards for practitioners. What's your take? Are you already using AI in your arbitration practice? 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gEm_yCEC I am also happy to feature Mridul Y Suri's insights on art law regulation, published by Indic Pacific Legal Research LLP at https://lnkd.in/gaEXGBhN And the Indo-Pacific Principles of Legal & Policy Writing: https://lnkd.in/gnQ-Ubdu Have a sweet weekend folks, as vibe coding hypes around. 😅 #Arbitration #AI #LegalTech #DisputeResolution cc Ish Jain Tushar Behl Manohar Samal, MCIArb Sanjay Notani Sanjay Rohra Vivek Doulatani Atul N Vignesh Ram, PhD Peter Slattery, PhD

I am delighted to share my experience as the Head of Collaborations for the 7th NUJS Mediation Competition, held from February 28 to March 2. While several Indian law schools organize mediation and negotiation competitions, the NUJS Mediation Competition has distinguished itself in multiple ways in this edition. When I stepped into this role, my primary objective was clear - to build long-term and meaningful partnerships with leading law firms, mediation centers, and key stakeholders in ADR. Our team played a crucial role in securing partnerships with prestigious international competitions, enabling participants to represent their universities on a global stage at events such as the Warsaw Negotiation Round, The Negotiation Challenge by The Negotiation Center, Trans-Atlantic Negotiation Competition by the Syracuse University, AIADR Mediation Competition by AIADR Secretariat , APIIT International Negotiation Competition by APIIT Sri Lanka, and MediateGuru Virtual International Mediation Competition. Through these collaborations, the NUJS ADR Society furthers its objective of expanding access for Indian students to internationally renowned ADR platforms, enabling our participants to compete at the most prestigious international competitions. We were also proud to establish new collaborations with Khaitan & Co and Triumvir Law for the very first time while continuing our valued partnership with Argus Partners (Solicitors & Advocates) for this edition. These esteemed firms have generously offered internship opportunities to our top-performing participants. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Sameer Bindra from Khaitan & Co and Mr. Kunal Dey from Argus Partners (Solicitors & Advocates), who supported our endeavour and facilitated these collaborations. Beyond Law Firms, we also collaborated with IAMC Hyderabad, Ex Curia International, Wægger Negotiation Institute, Jurisphere.ai, and Webnyay.   Lastly, it was an honor for our team to facilitate the Panel Discussion on Day 2, where we had the privilege of hosting our esteemed panelists, Mr. Chakrapani Misra, Mr. Jawad A J, Mr. Joe Tirado, Mr. Param Bhamra and Mr. Sameer Bindra. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our esteemed panelists accepting our invitation and for sharing their valuable insights and enriching the discussion with their expertise. I would also like to express my gratitude to Ranak Banerji for graciously taking on the role of moderator for the Panel Discussion.   All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Dhruv Maheshwari, the Convenor of the ADR Society and Mr. Atish Chakraborty, who entrusted us with this responsibility and stood by us through every challenge. Also, I would like to thank my fellow BODs, Bikramjit Gupta and Vishal Myneni and our team consisting of - Kindam Verma, Pranshu Singh Vishen, Shiva Gulhane, Pranab Mahajan, Rishi Tiwari, Apurba Paul Bag, Paehel Shah, NISHIKA PARIKSHYA, Rahul Mishra, and Samriddhi M..

  • The UK's Arbitration Act 2025 has received Royal Assent! This crucial update, stemming from the Law Commission's review, brings key changes in UK's arbitration landscape. Key changes include: 1. Codified arbitrator disclosure duties Arbitrators will have no liability for resignation unless the resignation is proved to be unreasonable, and in respect of the costs of an application for their removal, unless they have acted in bad faith. 2. Enhanced arbitrator immunity Gives a tribunal the power to make an award on a summary basis (upon an application made by a party) if it considers that a party has no real prospect of succeeding on the claim/defence or issue. 3. Introduction of summary disposal powers The Bill permits new court rules that would prevent the Court from rehearing evidence that has already been heard by a tribunal and restrict parties' ability to raise new grounds or evidence. 4. Clarified governing law of arbitration agreements The law of the arbitration agreement shall be the seat of the arbitration. 5. Strengthened court support for arbitral proceedings The Bill confirms that orders can be for the preservation of evidence and are available against third parties. The Bill also empowers emergency arbitrators to issue peremptory orders. 6. Refined jurisdictional objection procedures The Bill amends the Act so that an arbitral tribunal has the power to award costs despite a finding that it has no substantive jurisdiction. With the Government of India (Ministry of Law and Justice) also proposing to amend the Indian Arbitration Act 1996, will some of these changes make it to the Indian law? #UKArbitrationAct2025 #UKArbitration #LawCommission #CommercialLaw #LegalUpdates
