A commercial court in Dehradun recently passed a John Doe order in favour of The Doon School, restraining another educational institution in Srinagar and unknown parties from using the trademark ‘The Doon School’. John Doe orders are blanket cease and desist injunctions that are issued against anonymous entities. They are usually passed in suits involving infringement of intellectual property rights since it is often practically impossible to track down every infringing party. The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) on April 07, dismissed an appeal filed by IDBI Bank challenging the order of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) which dismissed an insolvency plea against Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL). The coram said that IDBI Bank is at liberty to file a fresh insolvency plea for defaults beyond the period stipulated under Section 10A of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016. Court Hall 1 of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on April 07 was witness to a heated exchange between a Senior Advocate and Chief Justice, with the latter remarking that the lawyer did not deserve to be a designated Senior Advocate. The Chief Justice observed that the lawyer has created a ruckus in the courtroom and raised his voice during a hearing, which is unbecoming of a Senior Advocate. Supreme Court judges, Justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta recently attended a conference on "Green Justice: Role of Legal Services Institutions for a Green and Clean Environment and Sustainable Development," organised by the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority (RSLSA) on April 5.
