We’re proud to share that Swiss CAT+ East at ETH Zurich has been awarded the Green Labs Gold Certification! 🏅🌱 (https://lnkd.in/eRvDBDdH) This recognition, granted through the LEAF (Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework) as part of the ETH Sustainability initiative, reflects our ongoing commitment to reducing our environmental footprint and promoting sustainable lab practices. 🌍♻️ This milestone was achieved through a variety of conscious efforts — from sharing equipment and chemicals, digitalizing documentation, and minimizing unnecessary resource usage wherever possible. A huge thanks to our amazing Swiss CAT+ East team for their dedication and to our fantastic users for your continued support and trust. And thanks to the ETH GreenLabs team for your support in our journey toward sustainability. Let’s keep pushing for a greener, more sustainable future — together! 💚 #GreenLabs #Sustainability #ETHZurich #SwissCAT+ #LabEfficiency #LEAF #GreenResearch
Swiss Cat+
Technische und berufliche Bildung
A data-driven infrastructure for catalysts discovery and optimization
Info
Our Mission: Our goal is to establish a world-leading technology platform combining cutting-edge high-throughput and automated experimentation equipment with advanced data analysis supported by artificial intelligence. Swiss CAT+ aims to be an open-access facility for the Swiss scientific community devoted to developing sustainable catalytic processes. Inception: Initiated by Prof. Dr. Christophe Copéret (ETHZ) and Prof. Dr. Nicolai Cramer (EPFL), Swiss CAT+ is a project funded by ETH Domain, divided into two Hubs: The East Hub (Swiss CAT+ East), focusing on heterogeneous catalysis, at the ETHZ. The West Hub (Swiss CAT+ West), focusing on homogeneous catalysis, at the EPFL.

Great to see the Swiss Cat+ platform at ETHZ playing a key role in this groundbreaking work! 🚀 By running 200+ experiments in just a few days using high-throughput tools, Hannes Frey contributed to accelerating the search for optimal CO₂ mineralization materials for Forge Minerals. Congratulations to Sylvain Petitgirard and his team—looking forward to continuing this collaboration! #HighThroughput #CarbonCapture #CO2Utilization #ClimateTech #ETHZurich
After running about 200 experiments using the SwissCat+ platform at ETH and the equipment from the applied geoscience departement at The University of Edinburgh, we have analysed the recovered samples using a novel high-throughput system for X-ray diffraction at the ESRF in Grenoble. The results are just of outstanding quality! Using our grant from innovate UK Forge Minerals is leveraging the best scientific equipment across Europe, helping us to target the optimum conditions for our CO2 mineralization process. Next step is to reproduce these results in a commercial scalable reactor. We will be coming back soon to the ESRF to analyse our first batch of samples made in a 250-liters reactor! #ETH #universityofedinburgh #esrf #innovateuk #forgeminerals

We are thrilled to welcome two new team members to the Swiss Cat+ East family at ETH Zürich, Hönggerberg. Kourosh Shariat joined us at the beginning of this year as a Machine Learning Engineer. With his expertise in data management and machine learning applications in chemistry, he brings valuable knowledge to our team - we’re excited to have him on board! Alex Guesh has been with us since November for a 6-month internship, contributing his skills and enthusiasm. We’re confident that both Kourosh and Alex will make a meaningful impact and help drive our mission forward. 🚀 #Welcome #GrowingTeam

We are pleased to present our latest work on open research data (ORD). This work describes a Python library developed at ETHZ SwissCAT+ as part of its data management strategy. Output data from various high-throughput/automated equipment such as Chemspeed, Unchained Labs and Avantium are merged and processed to be further used in AI-driven closed loop optimization workflows using Atinary Technologies's SDLabs platform. The presented Python library enables transparent tracing on how data are processed and normalized to foster effective utilization of open research data. We thank all the authors for contributing to this work: Erwin Lam, Tanguy Maury, Sebastian Preiss, yuhui Hou, Hannes Frey, Caterina Barillari, Paco Laveille. We thank the swissuniversities B3.2: ORD Funding for Existing Research Infrastructures of Strategic Relevance, and the ETH Board (ETH-Rat) Open Research Data (ORD) Program Measure 1: Field-specific actions Track C: Contribute Projects for their financial support to implement ORD and FAIR compatible data management components in catalysis. #ORD #LabAutomation #DigitalCatalysis #openresearchdata #swisscatpluseast

Since its inception in 2021, in addition to advanced automated and high-throughput experimentation in the field of heterogeneous catalysis, ETHZ SwissCAT+ has started developing and implementing a fully digital data management strategy to facilitate and standardize large database processing. In continuation of this work, we are happy to announce that we have just been awarded two Open Research Data (ORD) grants: swissuniversities: B3.2: ORD Funding for Existing Research Infrastructures of Strategic Relevance (152 kCHF) with the aim to implement an overall data management strategy with the possibility to be implemented at other facilities. ETH Board (ETH-Rat): Open Research Data (ORD) Program Measure 1: Field-specific actions Track C: Contribute Projects (15 kCHF) targeting streamlined and standardized heterogeneous catalysis characterization data. We thank the open science delegation from swissuniversities, the ETH Board (ETH-Rat) and the reviewers for their positive evaluation. We are looking forward to contributing to shaping the ORD landscape in the field of heterogeneous catalysis. #ORD #LabAutomation #DigitalCatalysis #openresearchdata #swisscatpluseast
