AI could contribute up to $2.9 trillion to Africa’s economy by 2030. But unlocking that potential hinges on one key factor: empowering young people, not just as beneficiaries, but as the driving force behind AI adoption, innovation and contextualization. Last week, Global Shapers Kigali hosted over 20 Global Shapers from Kenya, South Africa, Cameroon, Nigeria, Uganda, and Rwanda, who convened in Kigali for the Global AI Summit on Africa. Together, they explored how emerging technologies can help solve the continent’s most urgent challenges. Global Shapers Community, Kampala Hub

“There is a growing shortage of cybersecurity talent,” emphasized Akshay Joshi, Head of the Centre for Cybersecurity at the World Economic Forum, during yesterday’s Global Shapers live show hosted by Natalie Pierce. He challenged the myth that a strong tech background is required to enter the field, instead highlighting the value of transferable skills, adaptability, and a mindset for continuous learning. As digital adoption accelerates, so do cyber threats, making cybersecurity careers more accessible and more critical than ever. 💡 During the show, we also announced an upcoming cybersecurity workshop for Global Shapers with Jakub Olszewski from Standard Chartered, to kickstart cybersecurity careers. Global Shapers Kathy Liu, MPA CIPP/C from Global Shapers London Hub I & Alphaeus Hanson from Global Shapers - Jacksonville further enriched the conversation with their perspectives as young people in the cybersecurity space. 🎥 Missed the session? Last weekend, over 70 Global Shapers from 10 Italian-speaking Hubs gathered in Bari for an unforgettable retreat hosted by the Global Shapers Bari, set in iconic venues like Palazzo Jannuzzi and Bari City Hall.
