Very happy to announce the completion and publication of a 3 year project: Examining Challenges to Co-Design Digital Health Interventions With End Users: Systematic Review JMIR Publications This study broadly examined the advancements and challenges to co-design DHIs with end users over the last decade. The research analysed 171 experimental co-design studies across multiple domains, design approaches and methodologies employed in digital health over the last 10 years, in order to draw a line through the most common challenges to iterate and user test mHealth interventions. We are looking forward to building experimental research upon these findings to find faster, more robust and more reliable methods of data collection and analysis in mHealth co-design, incorporating AI and machine learning in the long run to solve these problems. Excited to share our upcoming paper at JMIR Publications with my wonderful co-authors Xiao Liu and Rema Padman. In the United States, 93% of adults access the internet, with 80% seeking health information. However, only 12% possess adequate health literacy to comprehend and utilize this information effectively. The abundance of health content on social media necessitates an automated approach to curate online health information tailored to diverse literacy levels. Our strategy involves augmented intelligence, combining human expertise with machine learning to enhance health literacy. Our work, supported by an NIH R01 grant from the National Library of Medicine, focuses on developing innovative methods to improve health information accessibility and comprehension. #videounderstandability #cotraining #machinelearning #healthliteracy For more details, check out the link: [JMIR Publications - Paper Preview](https://lnkd.in/gaV-QBnK)

Exciting Publication Alert! 🚨 We’re thrilled to announce that our latest research, "Identification and Categorization of the Distinct Purposes Underpinning the Use of Digital Health Care Self-Monitoring: Qualitative Study of Stakeholders in the Health Care Ecosystem," has just been published in JMIR Publications! 🎉 What gets measured gets done; what gets measured and receives positive feedback gets improved; what gets rewarded gets repeated. 📈 Digital technology in healthcare provides numerous benefits for multiple stakeholders, always including the patient. 🌟 The identified benefits and motives of using digital self-monitoring technology in healthcare are as follows: 1. Emancipate – Empowers patients to live more autonomous lives. 🌱 2. Learn – Helps identify patterns and detect signals of changes in health and well-being. 📊 3. Improve – Supports proactive behaviors and healthier lifestyle habits. 💪 4. Engage – Encourages active patient participation in their own care. 🤝 5. Control – Provides reminders and tracks symptoms to support treatment adherence. ⏰ 6. Evaluate – Complements clinical decision-making with real-time insights. 🧠 7. Innovate – Opens new possibilities for medical research and streamlining care delivery. 🚀 8. Generate – Sparks new initiatives as digital infrastructure expands and evolves. 🌐 👉 Check out the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/dbmXVqSJ This work was made possible through a fantastic collaboration with Mattias Elg, Ida Gremyr, Jesper Olsson, Jason Martin and Frida Smith We also appreciate the valuable feedback and support from the reviewers.

I am delighted to announce the publication of my paper, “Mobile Apps and Wearable Devices for Cardiovascular Health: Narrative Review,” in the esteemed JMIR Publications, which is based on my thesis at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW. I am deeply honored to have had the opportunity to collaborate with such inspiring authors as Christine Jacob 👩🏻💻 and Patrick Vavken, PD Dr.med. Christine Jacob 👩🏻💻, your dedication, knowledge, and passion for health and the power of digital health are unparalleled and have been instrumental in this research. Patrick Vavken, PD Dr.med., I am sincerely grateful for your insights and the opportunity to explore the potential of mobile apps and wearables in improving cardiovascular health. Collaborating with authors who are deeply committed to improving health through impactful innovations was a genuine privilege. This high-level review of apps and wearables for cardiovascular health aimed to uncover strengths and overlooked pain points. Key Findings: - Only 30% of apps were designed for the DACH region, and even fewer addressed sex-specific needs. - Just 20% are medically certified, and many lack any scientific or clinical validation, potentially undermining trust and relevance, especially for women whose symptoms are often underrepresented in trials. - 75% of wearables had better evidence support, but few were designed with gender-specific usability, comfort, or data relevance in mind. - Privacy gaps and poor integration with clinical systems are adoption blockers for patients and clinicians. This review highlights an opportunity for improved, evidence-based, and tailored mHealth heart apps and wearables for women. As Christine Jacob 👩🏻💻 rightly mentioned, “[..] Designing with women in mind is not optional; it’s essential.” Link: https://lnkd.in/dWufrUyQ DOI: 10.2196/65782
