JMIR Publications reposted this
I am delighted to announce the publication of my paper, “Mobile Apps and Wearable Devices for Cardiovascular Health: Narrative Review,” in the esteemed JMIR Publications, which is based on my thesis at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW. I am deeply honored to have had the opportunity to collaborate with such inspiring authors as Christine Jacob 👩🏻💻 and Patrick Vavken, PD Dr.med. Christine Jacob 👩🏻💻, your dedication, knowledge, and passion for health and the power of digital health are unparalleled and have been instrumental in this research. Patrick Vavken, PD Dr.med., I am sincerely grateful for your insights and the opportunity to explore the potential of mobile apps and wearables in improving cardiovascular health. Collaborating with authors who are deeply committed to improving health through impactful innovations was a genuine privilege. This high-level review of apps and wearables for cardiovascular health aimed to uncover strengths and overlooked pain points. Key Findings: - Only 30% of apps were designed for the DACH region, and even fewer addressed sex-specific needs. - Just 20% are medically certified, and many lack any scientific or clinical validation, potentially undermining trust and relevance, especially for women whose symptoms are often underrepresented in trials. - 75% of wearables had better evidence support, but few were designed with gender-specific usability, comfort, or data relevance in mind. - Privacy gaps and poor integration with clinical systems are adoption blockers for patients and clinicians. This review highlights an opportunity for improved, evidence-based, and tailored mHealth heart apps and wearables for women. As Christine Jacob 👩🏻💻 rightly mentioned, “[..] Designing with women in mind is not optional; it’s essential.” Link: https://lnkd.in/dWufrUyQ DOI: 10.2196/65782
