The new police station in Hershey, Pennsylvania, exemplifies the seamless integration of Cross-Laminated Timber (#CLT) and steel in modern construction. The team at Quality Buildings LLC has delivered exceptional work, overseeing both the supply and installation of Element5’s Douglas fir / SPF hybrid #CLT prodcut for this impressive project.

📢 Join us for a FREE WoodWorks webinar this Wednesday, April 2 on #masstimber vertical additions. 📢 We'll look in-depth at a real-life case study of the Pathway Arbour Mill expansion project. 👉🏼About the Project Pathway Non-Profit in Mississauga, Ontario sought to add additional units to their housing complex for seniors quickly and with as little disruption as possible to their current residents. The solution? A mass timber vertical addition. 🏗 After much research, they decided to add 2 new floors using a hybrid steel and cross-laminated timber (CLT) structure to the top of one of their existing buildings – a 35 year-old, 4-storey, 98 unit development called Abour Mill. 🌲 The project sets a remarkable precedent for other non-profit #affordablehousing providers who want to build more housing using mass timber additions. Webinar Details 📅 Date: April 2nd, 2025 🕛 Time: 12 p.m. (ET) ⏳ Duration: 60 minutes 🔗 Register today! https://lnkd.in/gmR5UVdX Speakers - Stephen Balamut, Project Manager, Element5 - Roman Spektor, General Manager, Pathway Non Profit Community Development - Cathy Tafler, Architect, Tafler Rylett Architects - Craig Nicoletti, P. We were happy to host the Leadership team from JVC Precision Ltd at our St. Thomas #masstimber facility this month to discuss present and future business and to walk them through our expansion space (currently under Construction) that will house our new #glulam line. JVC supplied all of the baseplates and beam hangers for the office and canopy for the expansion (as seen in the pics below along with those gorgeous Glulam fishbelly beams). JVC is a strategic partner for Element5 and has supplied custom steel connections and weldments to over 30+ of our projects. Having great partners like JVC Precision is part of Element5’s success story! We're happy to say that our expansion is progressing as scheduled and remains on track to launch this year! It will increase the size of our current facility substantially from 130,000 sq. ft. to over 350,000 sq. ft. of floor space with office frontage. 📢 Element5 is proud to have participated in the #masstimber feasibility study with our colleagues at Studio VMA Inc. / Studio Veronica Madonna Architect for the Toronto District School Board. 📢 👉🏼 As this recent Globe and Mail article states, the feasibility study concluded that the use of mass timber is beneficial for health, safety, environmental and cost benefits and because of the study. As a result, the new Poplar Road school will be designed using mass timber. We couldn’t agree more with Carol Phillips when she states: “We want the finished building to be an instructional tool to teach both industry and these students about sustainability and to understand we are all a part of nature, not separate from it,” ♥️ “A building like this, if it places itself in the land … can actually help us to heal our broken relationship with the planet.” 🌲 We hope that other school boards will look at the study and Polar Road and see what we see -> that mass timber is a cost-effective, sustainable, healthy solution. 🌟 The Future of School construction is mass timber! 🔗 To read the article, see the link in the comments below. We had tons of fun at last week's Pub & Learn in Toronto, where Element5 staffers Lee Scott, and Kevin Rocchi shared some #masstimber insights with a sold out crowd. Kevin in particular was in his element (see what we did there?), taking folks through the ins and outs of #CLT and #Glulam production. Hailey Quiquero also spoke about encapsulated mass timber and the Ontario Code, and Connie Rowley spoke about insurance and mass timber - an important topic for the industry. Many thanks go to WoodWorks for hosting the evening - it was well organized, the food, drinks and venue were great and the company was outstanding! Kudos Brock O'Donnell, Steven Street, Woodsure, Canadian Wood Council for a great night!
