🍽️ Piloting Diabetic Friendly Meals🍽️ We're working on an Australian-first Diabetic Friendly Meals pilot. Currently, the food relief sector is not meeting recipients' nutritional and medical needs. By filling this important gap, we aim to improve health outcomes, relieve stress, and lower healthcare costs. Prepared to strict standards and in guidance with dietitians, our Diabetic Friendly Meal program will tailor FareShare’s homestyle, cooked meals to meet individuals nutritional needs along with nutrition counselling and home delivery. This program is about more than just meals—it's about empowering individuals to take control of their health and proving that change is possible. Together, we can build a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/d5seFBvC

Cooking 1000s of nutritious meals a day for people in need. Kitchens in Melbourne and Brisbane. Corporate volunteering.
About us
FareShare is a charity that has been cooking free, nutritious meals for people doing it tough since 2001. We believe that every Australian deserves a nutritious meal, regardless of their circumstances or location. FareShare operates Australia’s largest non-profit kitchens in Melbourne and Brisbane where chefs and volunteers work hand in hand to cook the best possible meal for every person in need. Each year FareShare transforms rescued, donated and our homegrown food into millions of delicious, healthy meals that feed dignity and wellbeing for Australians experiencing hardship. A homestyle meal shows that somebody cares and has an immediate impact. Our healthy meals are given away free to frontline charities such as soup vans, homeless shelters, women’s refuges, First Nations organisations and groups providing disaster relief. The need for meal relief has never been higher with the soaring cost of living, frequent natural disasters and the lingering effects of the pandemic hurting millions of Australians.

🎉 Congratulations to our long-time partner Ford Australia on 100 years! This week, we were honored to welcome Ford President of Philanthropy, Mary Culler, and her team to our revamped Melbourne Kitchen, now the largest charity kitchen in Australia! Ford has been an integral part of our journey since 2015, volunteering in both our Melbourne and Brisbane kitchens and providing generous donations to support our mission. Their latest contribution is helping us to source and grow food for our cooked meals. A heartfelt thank you to Ford for your ongoing support. Together, we’re making a real difference in the lives of people experiencing food insecurity. Here's to many more years of partnership!

🚚Meals for the Mob (MftM) heads to far West QLD🚚 Our MftM meals are now reaching First Nations communities in Windorah and Jundah – the furthest west in QLD our meals have ever gone! It may only be a small number of meals at this point but we know the impact on the communities will be huge. A big thanks to our partner IGA Supermarkets and our team for making this happen. Our MftM program was developed in consultation with First Nations communities and services to provide culturally appropriate meals to First Nations communities experiencing food insecurity. It's official, the federal election is upon us. Sadly, on election day (and all the days prior), millions of Australians will continue to struggle to put food on the table. That’s why the food relief sector is UNITING to push for genuine solutions to food insecurity! Between us, SecondBite | FareShare and our sector partners Foodbank Australia and OzHarvest delivered over 160 million meals last year. But we need urgent government action to tackle hunger at its source, plus ongoing support to ensure that no one is left hungry. While we welcome the Coalition’s recent announcement of $50 million in funding, much more is desperately needed for the sector to increase its support to communities and address the demand we see every day. This federal election, we collectively call for stronger food governance, and greater support for the food rescue and relief sector to solve Australia's hunger crisis. 🥫Cyclone Alfred Food Relief 🍝 Together with SecondBite we're responding to Ex Tropical Cyclone Alfred by delivering emergency food hampers filled with essential, nutritious items and cooked meals to people in urgent need. So far, between Northern New South Wales and Southern Queensland, we have delivered the equivalent of 122,222 meals to people affected by this disaster – this includes SecondBite pantry staples, bottled water, and fresh fruit and veg, and FareShare ready-to-eat meals. These meals are often ideal for people struggling with a long recovery and/or who have lost access to their cooking facilities. These communities will need our support for some time to come, as they continue to clean up following this disaster. If you are able to help us continue to provide this support, please donate here: secondbite.org/emergency #CycloneAlfred #DisasterRelief #EmergencyRelief

We want to give a huge shout out to Lineage for offering us invaluable freezer space for SecondBite food and FareShare cooked meals in case of damage to our sites. We moved 50 pallets of food and meals over to them before Tropical Cyclone Alfred hit and this meant that we were still able to provide food and meals to people who need them most early last week. Fighting food insecurity is a team effort and we are really grateful to Lineage for their support 👏

We're reopening on Thursday! Our Queensland Kitchen experienced some damage from Cyclone Alfred, so our team is working as hard as possible to get it cleaned up and ready to go. This means our dedicated chefs and volunteers will be back in action, preparing cooked meals for people in need from Thursday. We are working with our charity partners to prioritise areas most in need. For our community partners, we appreciate your patience during this time. If you have any questions, please contact your Community Partnerships Officer.
