About us

Foodbank Victoria is an independent not-for-profit organisation with almost 90 years’ experience providing food relief. We are the largest provider of food relief in Victoria, including in times of disaster as part of the State Relief and Recovery Team. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation and pay our respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging. Our vision is healthy food for all Victorians, yet 1 in 5 people – including children – go hungry each year. To ensure we can reach as many people as possible, we work with food donors across the supply chain to source edible food from farmers, manufacturers and retailers. This often includes product that is out of specification, close to its best-before date, has incorrect labelling or damaged packaging, as well as excess stock and discontinued products. Without Foodbank, much of this food would simply go to landfill. Unfortunately, donations of food don’t always meet demand. In an innovative approach to fighting hunger, we work with some of Australia’s leading food manufacturers to secure a sustainable supply of essential items for our Key Staples Program. We also run programs in Victoria to target particular vulnerable groups, such as our School Breakfast Clubs, Farms to Families pop-up markets, and Essential Pantry Program. In 2017/18, we were able to distribute 8.4 million kilograms of staple, fresh and frozen foods, personal hygiene items and household products. This volume is the equivalent of putting 15 million meals on tables for people in need. We continue to work with more than 450 charity partners around the state to feed more than 116,000 people a month — nearly one-third of whom are children. If your organisation can support our work, please get in touch.

  • Sunshine, smiles and ice cream legends…today had it all. As over 250 families came through our market today, we shared laughs, tears and handed out a whole lot of food with the help of our great mates from Peters Ice Cream who swapped icy treats for fresh fruit and veg for the day. "it's a great day helping the community and getting to work with people you don't usually see in the office". Thanks team. • Thinking about something meaningful to do with your team?   "From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this is a place where passion and purpose come together.... We were motivated to volunteer at Foodbank because we wanted to make a tangible difference in the community. Knowing that so many people face food insecurity every day really resonated with us, and we felt that giving our time to support such a vital organisation was one way we could help. We value being part of a team that works to ensure no one goes hungry, and we found it deeply rewarding to contribute to such an important cause.” Janene Grant, Senior Engagement Division, NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission for more information on corporate volunteering with Foodbank Victoria click the link below: https://lnkd.in/g3yPBWs

  • It might be April Fool’s Day, but we’re pretty damn serious about how many Victorians are struggling right now. In fact, we're currently feeding 69,000 people every single day and the demand is not slowing down anytime soon. Thanks to our great mates from AusNet who helped us at today's mobile supermarket.

  • Do you have what it takes to be an apple-picking legend? There’s still time to sign up for our Fruit Loop Corporate Challenge.    Sometimes the sequel is even better than the original… and we have a feeling that Fruit Loop 2.0 is going to be just that 🍏 Fruit Loop is officially back for 2025, so if you want to get in on the action and lend your apple-picking skills to feeding Victorians doing it tough, there’s still time to sign up your team. Thanks to our friends at Montague Farms for making it possible! 🍎 Lock in your team’s spot and learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gkhgEFg8

  • This morning we watched nearly 300 people wander through our market and walk away with bags of fresh fruit and vegetables. It was magical! The team from Port of Melbourne were there to help with big smiles and big muscles to get the job done. We are so grateful to all of our corporate partners…we literally couldn’t do it without them.

  • Join Us for a Day of Impact!  As a charity, we rely on the generosity of volunteers. Right now, we're calling on corporate teams to step up and make a difference. "Having never worked in the warehouse directly (mostly office-based), I had so much fun... The experience completely filled my cup, and I look forward to doing more." - Bina Walton, Business Service Coordinator, Lineage https://lnkd.in/g3yPBWs

  • Almost 400 students lined up to get food at Deakin Uni Burwood Campus yesterday. I guess it’s easy to think it’s a rite of passage as a student to be poor and live on 2 minute noodles, but many of these students we met today, are really struggling. The price of rent, transport, and with no family support, it makes it very difficult to make ends meet. They make this food last as long as they can, but they only take what they can use, and they are very grateful to get it. 🥰

  • This International Women's Day, we’re not just talking about gender equality—we’re living it. 💪 60% of our workforce? Women. 54% of our managers? Women. 50% of our executive team? Women. 57% of our Board? Women. And we couldn’t be prouder! 💜

  • Wishing everyone a blessed Ramadan! At our markets, we strive to cater to the diverse needs of each community that we visit. Today’s market at North Dandenong Neighbourhood House has a large percentage of Muslim attendees, so we aim to pack the mobile supermarket with a variety of halal food options to ensure that everyone can enjoy it.
