The immediate benefit of food relief may be obvious, but social, environmental and economic benefits of food relief extend far beyond simply filling tummies. Foodbank Australia engaged industry experts, Think Impact, to calculate our social return on investment (SROI), measuring the impact of Foodbank’s work and the real world benefits arising from it. This important analysis found that every $1 invested in Foodbank generates $5.83 in social, environmental and economic value – an incredible return on investment! Today, on World Health Day, we're highlighting the wide-ranging benefits of the work we do. From improving the accessibility of nutritious food to reducing the prevalence of mental health struggles, providing food relief supports the health and wellbeing of millions of Australians. #worldhealthday #foodrelief #impact #SROI #socialreturnoninvestment #foodinsecurity

In tonight’s federal budget reply, we saw a $50m commitment to food relief across Australia, funding that is sorely needed as we see the increase in the demand for food relief. The hunger problem in our country is big, this is a good start but let’s see what else can be done to solve this problem. #Federalpolitics #AusPol #FederalBudget #Coalition #FederalFunding #FoodRelief Brianna Casey AM Dean Smith

We honestly cannot argue with how good Aussies are when a disaster hits. Disaster after disaster, we continue to see Australians rolling up their sleeves, digging in deep and rallying around those doing it tough and this was evident with the recent ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred's and the devastation it left behind. From individuals lending a hand to so many of our national partners going above and beyond, we would like to say a massive thank to you everyone and every partner that has provided support to the affected communities in Queensland and NSW. A massive thank you to ALDI Stores Australia for stepping in with not only donated goods but turning on donations at tills and dollar matching, Asahi Group Holdings and Amazon for a huge amount of bottled water – something that is needed when local drinking water in unsafe, Fonterra for pallets of UHT milk, Sanitarium for much loved Weet-Bix and Up & Go, The a2 Milk Company for powdered and UHT milk, and SunRice Group, Nestle and Oriental Merchant Group for mixed pantry essentials. We could not do what we do without the support of these amazing partners. The media have left these communities, the spotlight turned on to the next major story but the road to recovery for these communities is not done. It will take months, if not years, to rebuild and Foodbank will be there to ensure they have access to good food and essential supplies for as long as its needed. Thank you for your continued support. #CycloneAlfred #Thankyou #CorporateSupport #Aussies Brianna Casey AM Erica Goldfinch James Trickey Ian Laing

Getting food to people facing hunger across Australia takes a true team effort. Our Stone Fruit Program, supported by Montague Farms and Premier Fresh Australia , ensures a variety of peaches, plums, and nectarines reach Foodbanks across Australia. But moving fresh produce across the country isn’t simple. That’s where our incredible transport partners come in – and for South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania, there’s an extra step. To cross borders, the fruit must be irradiated against pests like fruit fly. A huge thank you to Steritech Australia, who process the fruit at their Victorian facilities at no cost to Foodbank – an essential step in getting fresh food from farms to families in need. #FoodRelief #Collaboration #FightingHunger #FoodbankAustralia

The Labor government has committed to developing a new, much-needed, national food security strategy is re-elected and Foodbank thoroughly welcomes this announcement. Food security isn’t just about food relief—it’s about resilience. With natural disasters, supply chain disruptions, and economic pressures becoming the norm, we need a coordinated, whole-of-government approach to ensure food is accessible to every Australian, no matter their circumstances. One in 5 median income households is now experiencing food insecurity, with 10% of these median income households severely food insecure, meaning they are skipping meals and even going entire days without eating to ensure they can keep a roof over their heads. At the same time, Australia wastes 7.6 million tonnes of food every year—enough to feed every hungry Australian multiple times over. The disconnect is staggering. At Foodbank, we’re sourcing 252,000 meals a day, and supporting over a million people each month. But the reality is, that demand is outpacing supply—just as it is for charities across the country. Stronger leadership, stronger policies, and meaningful investment are the only way forward. #FoodSecurity #HungerInAustralia #CostOfLiving #FoodWaste

We’re excited to welcome our new partner, Ascott Australia, to help provide much-needed food relief to communities across the country. Food insecurity is hitting harder than ever, with 69% of single-parent households affected in the past year. Of these households, 41% experienced the most severe form of food insecurity, meaning they regularly skipped meals, reduced portions or went whole days without food. That’s why today, at their International Women’s Day event, Ascott Australia announced a three-year partnership with Foodbank, starting with a donation equivalent to 30,000 meals for people in need. Their ongoing support will help us provide thousands more meals to communities across the country. With a network of over 130 properties, including Quest Apartment Hotels, Citadines, lyf, and Oakwood, Ascott Australia is committed to making a difference—rallying their teams to support food relief through volunteering, fundraising, and food drives. #EndHunger #ZeroHunger #EveryMealMatters #IWD2025

We’re excited to be attending the 2025 AMIC Meat Processors and Export Conference (MPEC) on the Gold Coast, March 12–13! When budgets are tight, meat is often one of the first essentials to disappear from shopping lists, making it one of the most in-demand food items we distribute. This event is a great opportunity to connect with meat processors and exporters from across Australia, raising awareness about the increasing need for food relief and how they can help us ‘meat’ the growing demand. We’re also incredibly grateful to MPEC2025 for the hundreds of kilograms of packaged meat set to be donated to Foodbank. These vital donations will help provide essential protein to those doing it tough. Thank you! Because of your support, we sourced the equivalent of 92 million meals last year—helping countless people in need. Hunger shouldn’t be part of anyone’s story, but for too many, it is. The demand for food relief continues to rise, with more families facing the harsh reality of going without. This crisis is far from over, but thanks to supporters like you, we’re getting food to those who need it most. Your support means fewer empty plates and relief for those doing it tough. We’re deeply grateful to have you by our side as we work towards a hunger-free Australia. #ThankYou #EndHunger #FoodRelief #FoodReliefCharity
