Monash University Wound Care were privileged to host Prof Probst on his recent sabbatical in Australia. This is the first in a program of research that we were fortunate to undertake during his visit. We found that whilst health professionals believe in the importance of empathy in wound care, there are multiple barriers to being able to provide the care that patients deserve. Let's place a greater importance on the role of empathy in the care of people with wounds. Sebastian Probst Shan Bergin
Empathy isn’t optional in wound care; it’s essential. Our latest study with Australian wound care professionals shows that empathy strengthens trust, improves adherence, and supports healing. But challenges like time pressure, emotional fatigue, and cultural barriers can get in the way. Let’s make empathy a core part of clinical practice, not an afterthought.
