Sanlam CA Training Programme reposted this
I am not one to write long paragraphs and life stories, but as my first post on LinkedIn, I figured let me share my academic journey. 2018: I matriculated with 7/7 distinctions, obtaining 100% in Accounting and 97% in Mathematical literacy, placing in the North West top 10 and recognised as the 2nd top learner in Quantile 2. 2019: I registered for BCom Accounting Extended degree as an Orange carpet student at University of Johannesburg. As a result of having done Maths Literacy in high school, this meant completing my BCom in 4 years, instead of 3. 2019-2022: A few weeks after registration, I came across the story of Rossana Ebraim CA (SA) who had obtained distinctions from matric all the way to her final year. I knew from the day I read her story that I wanted my story to be similar and if she could do it, then it is possible. In 2022, I completed my BCom (Cum laude), obtaining distinctions for all 36 of my modules over the 4 years. 2023: Without any funding, I registered for BCTA at Uj, bridging into CTA. What a challenging year, both academically and financially. I have never received so many rejection letters in such a short space of time. But, because I knew what the goal was, I had to self-fund and push through to get into CTA. A massive thank you to Amanda Dempsey and Accountancy@UJ for assisting me with registration and study materials. 2024: I qualified to register for Bachelor of Accounting Honours, which comprises of the 4 CTA modules plus an additional research module. However, because of my outstanding fees from BCTA, registration was a struggle. I finally registered; but little did I know that I was in for a surprise. For the first time in my life, I was failing. As an overachiever, this was really a hard pill to swallow. Fast forward to end of 2024, I received my results. Sadly, I had gotten supplementary exams for all my modules (except research), and these will be written in January 2025. Having to study in December? On Christmas and New Year’s? Difficult! But, my goal kept me going. My heartfelt gratitude to Jelvin Griffioen, Karabo Sihiya CA(SA) and the UJ lecturing team for the support throughout this journey. 2025: I wrote all my supp exams. A huge shoutout to Bongokuphiwe Nyembe for the support, tips and advice. With no rest, I continued to study for the IAC, which was written a week after my supp exams. I am thrilled to announce that I have: -Successfully completed my BAcc Hons, and was awarded the top student in research. Credits to Dr Muneer Hassan for the role he played in the success of my research -Started my CA training articles at Sanlam. -Passed the IAC. My heartfelt gratitude to Jason Borien, Ayesha Hayat and Sanlam for the incredible support, encouragement and for funding my CTA studies. Psalms 23. I serve a living God. To my friends, family and everyone I couldn’t mention, thank you so much for your support and believing in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself. Onwards and upwards.
