Primerio News: On 3 April 2025, Primerio in partnership with BREMER Law Firm, hosted the Inaugural African Antitrust Salon at the historic Morrison Clark Historic Inn in Washington, D.C. during the 73rd Annual Spring Meeting of the American Bar Association Antitrust Law Section. The well attended event provided a powerful platform for dialogue among African competition regulators, antitrust practitioners, and the broader global enforcement community. Primerio partners John Oxenham, Michael-James Currie and Andreas Stargard led the discussions into continent wide antitrust developments together with Nicolas Bremer by way of a series of questions and answer sessions with the leading competition competition agency representatives Dr. Willard Mwemba, CEO of the COMESA Competition Commission, followed by remarks by Commissioner Mahmoud Momtaz, PhD, Chairman of the Egyptian Competition Authority, and contributions from Florence Abebe, Head of Anti-Competitive Practices at the FCCPC Nigeria. These respected leaders all provided valuable insight into evolving enforcement strategies, cross-border cooperation mechanisms and the growing influence of African perspectives in global competition law. We are grateful to all our guest speakers and attendees for making this inaugural event a true success and remain excited to continue fostering and ensuring dialogue, innovation and excellence in the global antitrust space. On 27 March 2025, Primerio, in collaboration with our valued partners, hosted a successful event titled “Demystifying Governance, Risk and Compliance: How a Culture of Proactivity Brings Strategic Advantage” at the Inanda Club in Sandton. The event brought together industry leaders, legal experts, and compliance professionals for an engaging discussion on the evolving regulatory landscape and best practices for mitigating legal and reputational risks. The event kicked off with an introduction by Primerio’s founding partner, John Oxenham, in which he set the stage for Primerio’s first event of 2025. John highlighted the increasing complexity of navigating South Africa’s regulatory landscape, using a real-world example of a global investigation that escalated from a minor compliance issue to significant legal and reputational risks. He underscored the evolving regulatory challenges in antitrust, global investigations, and public interest considerations in competition law, demonstrating how individual actions can lead to long-term investigations and severe financial and reputational consequences. Finally, he welcomed new and long-standing partners, recognising their contributions to addressing regulatory risks and offering viable solutions. Thereafter, the morning featured a series of insightful panel discussions covering a range of critical topics. Michael-James Currie joined fellow experts to discuss structuring M&A deals in South Africa, highlighting key investor considerations and the importance of addressing empowerment obligations. Joshua Eveleigh led a discussion on beneficial ownership and ultimate control, exploring the impact of new reporting standards. Stephany Torres and her panel provided valuable perspectives on navigating regulatory and compliance risks across South Africa. Other sessions focused on safeguarding corporate integrity, personal and professional indemnity, and the role of ethical leadership in governance and compliance. We extend our sincere appreciation to all our speakers, panellists, and attendees for contributing to a highly engaging and informative session. A special thank you to our event sponsors— Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa (CCASA), Jack Hammer Global, TRADAM TRANSFORMATION SOLUTIONS , @DGD Group, SilverCrest Insurance Brokers, and Joburgstyle Media House - for their invaluable support. Primerio remains committed to fostering meaningful discussions on governance, risk, and compliance and looks forward to future engagements that drive knowledge-sharing and industry best practices. #Governance #RiskManagement #Compliance #GRC #RegulatoryCompliance #CorporateIntegrity
