We are thrilled to announce that Etana Energy has reached financial close on its first solar project with Mulilo, unlocking 75MWac of new renewable electricity capacity for large power users. This landmark deal is made possible through a R1 billion payment guarantee facility from Standard Bank Group and a preference share investment of up to R372M from Norfund and Standard Bank. This financing—alongside the R1.8 billion ($100 million) guarantee facility secured last year from GuarantCo and British International Investment (BII)—is enabling Etana’s trader model to scale rapidly, paving the way for 700MW of wind and solar projects to come online. This achievement would not have been possible without the trust and collaboration of our partners. A huge thank you to our investors, guarantors, IPPs, lenders, and customers for their confidence in Etana’s mission to provide businesses with affordable, low-carbon electricity through the grid. The future of energy in South Africa is changing—and we’re just getting started. 🔆 Find out more here: https://bit.ly/42cEChh #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition #Wheeling #EtanaEnergy #Solar #Wind #CleanPower #Sustainability Chariot Limited H1 Holdings (Pty) Ltd

Etana is a renewable energy trader with a NERSA-issued electricity trading licence.
About us
Etana Energy is a South African majority black-controlled clean electricity trader that supplies electricity generated by renewable energy projects to business customers in South Africa. Under its NERSA-issued electricity trading license, Etana buys electricity generated by Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and prosumers and sells this to customers connected to Eskom’s grid, and where wheeling arrangements have been put in place, the municipal distribution network. This currently includes Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and the City of Cape Town. Etana’s customers benefit from certified low-carbon electricity at prices competitive with Eskom or municipal tariffs, forward price certainty, flexible contract terms and durations, and qualifying B-BEEE expenditure. IPPs get a bankable long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Etana, which assumes and manages the allocation and settling of electricity bills with customers and Network Operators, and the customer credit risk in its customer pool. Etana’s shareholders are H1 Holdings and Chariot Transitional Power. They bring a wealth of relevant experience from the renewable energy and electricity trading industries. Etana has offices in Cape Town, Gqeberha and Johannesburg.

Cape Town’s energy grid is officially open for cleaner, more affordable power! ⚡ The City of Cape Town has successfully concluded its first electricity wheeling pilot, unlocking new opportunities for cleaner, more affordable, and more secure power. This is a game-changer for businesses wanting to access cost-competitive renewable electricity. We are proud to be part of this milestone, working with Growthpoint Properties to prove that wheeling works – and that it can drive private investment in new energy generation. This is a win for businesses, a win for South Africa, and a win for the planet. With the doors now officially open for energy trading, the time to act is now! Let’s power a cleaner, more resilient future together. We are delighted to announce a groundbreaking deal with GuarantCo and British International Investment (BII). In this deal, Etana Energy will secure R1.8 billion ($100 million) in guarantee financing to support its role as a key enabler of renewable energy projects in South Africa. The US$100 million in guarantee financing will unlock an estimated R9 billion of new renewable energy projects – providing a major boost to South Africa’s green energy transition. The guarantee facility will enable around 500MW to be added to the grid by several renewable energy (wind and solar) IPPs over the next few years. Displacing fossil fuel generation with electricity generated from renewable sources will avoid 1.2 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions annually and create a significant number of new jobs.
