We are thrilled to announce that Mulilo has successfully reached Financial Close on the Du Plessis Dam Solar PV2 facility, a 105MW (75MWac) solar photovoltaic project near De Aar in the Northern Cape. This landmark project is one of the first in South Africa to achieve Financial Close under an energy aggregator model, with Etana Energy as the offtaker. The project was developed in partnership with H1 Holdings (Pty) Ltd. The Du Plessis Dam Solar PV2 facility will generate approximately 248 GWh of electricity annually, contributing significantly to the country’s renewable energy supply. Strategically located near several other Mulilo projects, the facility will be one of four Mulilo plants connected to the Kestrel Main Transmission Substation. This innovative substation, also developed by Mulilo, has unlocked critical grid capacity in a key solar resource region, ensuring more efficient integration of renewable energy into the national grid. This project was made possible with the support across financial, legal, and strategic advisory teams, including PepperTree Capital, Bowmans (Law Firm), ENS, and Standard Bank Group as Mandated Lead Arranger, which were instrumental partners in achieving Financial Close. #RenewableEnergy #Solar #Mulilo #FinancialClose

Following a very special farewell event at the Danish Ambassador’s residence in Pretoria, our first cohort of 17 students from the Northern Cape embarked upon their very first international flight to Denmark for a 3-month specialised training program at Aalborg Techcollege. The program is a skills development program that will focus on two key vocational areas: - Composite Technician training (manufacturing and maintenance of wind turbine blades) - Maintenance Technician training (plumbing and electrical work) These green skills will open many new pathways to employment in the renewable energy sector, supporting a sustainable future that benefits both local communities and the renewable industry in South Africa. The Danish Vocational Program (DVP), is one example of how the collaborative efforts of Mulilo, Mulilo Community Trusts, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and the Embassy of Denmark in South Africa are driving sustainable development in South African communities. Follow our journey as we become architects of sustainable development. #Architectsof #SustainableDevelopment #SocialImpact #Mulilo

It was a pleasure hosting our shareholders Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners in South Africa recently. This partnership demonstrates our commitment to leading South Africa’s transition towards a more sustainable future. #Mulilo #RenewableEnergy #Partnership
Recently, our Managing Partner Jakob Baruël Poulsen and Senior Partner Christina Grumstrup Soerensen visited Mulilo in Cape Town. Since 2023, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has owned a majority stake in the company through its Growth Markets Fund I to help accelerate the positive impact on the South African energy market and make a meaningful contribution to resolve the energy crisis with cost effective renewable energy. Our Senior Partners got the opportunity to experience Mulilo projects first-hand and meet the team of experienced industry professionals. Mulilo is a pioneer in South Africa’s renewable energy sector and their commitment involves developing, owning, and operating utility scale solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). And in late 2024, Mulilo reached financial close on three BESS projects with a combined capacity of 257 MW/1,028 MWh. The need for new sources of energy is expanding by the day. Today, the majority of South Africa’s energy supply relies on coal, but the country is on a decarbonization path, aiming to reduce coal usage by half by 2040. And the country has great renewable resources with sun and wind and a demand for building out power infrastructure. These factors result in a significant impact potential for CIP. We are currently fundraising for our Growth Markets Fund II – a fund focused on investments in large-scale and complex, greenfield renewable energy infrastructure projects in high-growth, middle-income markets with strong fundamentals for renewable development.
