JeMe Cioppa-Mosca, PT, MBA, Senior Vice President of HSS Rehabilitation and Performance, continues her Words of Wisdom Leadership series with a look at the 7-38-55 rule, which states that about 55% of communication is body language, 38% is the tone of your voice, and only 7% is the choice of words. JeMe discusses not only how to be mindful of what you convey, but how to interpret the body language of the people you’re speaking to as well.
Good morning, and welcome to the second in my Leadership Words of Wisdom series! Today we’ll dive into the 7-38-55 rule popularized by psychologist Albert Mehrabian. Your body language and your tone are actually far more impactful to your listeners than the words that you say, so we’ll talk about how to make sure that your intended message is coming across. Have you adjusted your communication style throughout your career? Do you pay attention to the body language of those around you when you’re in meetings? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
