Reflections on six months at Bayer Vital

Bayer Vital is the sales and marketing organization of Bayer | Pharmaceuticals and Bayer | Consumer Health in Germany. Really?

After six months heading up this fantastic organization, I can tell you it is sooo much more!

When I was asked to lead Bayer Vital earlier this year, I felt super excited because this is where the rubber hits the road, where our products reach our patients and customers in Germany. And now after half a year, I see that the magic lies not only in our innovative products and solutions for patients; it lies in our people.

At Bayer Vital, our people are pragmatic, passionate about customer-focus, and they thrive on driving sustainable and impactful partnerships today and tomorrow. 

This has been highly evident on my road trips across Germany since April.

Whether visiting regional sales teams; strategizing with our health policy experts; meeting our supply teams; learning from our medical experts; or chartering new pathways with our data scientists, I can tell you that our people are hungry and curious to collectively shape the future of healthcare solutions for patients and consumers in Germany.

What makes it even more special is the Bayer Vital identity.

Coming together recently as an organization for our Health & Safety Day #HSD22, I was highly impressed and touched by the sense of camaraderie and collective pride in who we are.

This organization is made up of such a diverse range of colleagues who go the extra mile to share their expertise and experience in fields that go way beyond their everyday roles – be it in sport, mindfulness, meditation or even qi gong.

And I am not only talking about hobbies: At the close of the Health & Safety Day, for example, I was urged to have a quick blood sugar and blood pressure test. Several friendly doctors in white coats, masks and gloves greeted me.

I took a seat only to realize that on of the doctors was Melita Dietze (our former Head of Health Policy and Market Access – and now our Head of Medical). In fact, all the doctors in that room were internal colleagues.

These medical doctors – like most colleagues within this organization – have all gravitated to Bayer Vital because they share a common goal to contribute towards ensuring access to healthcare solutions that make a positive and sustainable impact on the lives of patients and consumers.

A new mission for Bayer Vital

Today I am feeling proud that we – our Management Team and several focus groups across Bayer Vital - have worked together for the past few weeks to crystallize a new mission and behavioral statements which come under the umbrella of the Bayer vision – Health for All, Hunger for None.

“We are driving Health for All in Germany with team-spirit and courage. Our success today will help secure the success of healthcare solutions tomorrow.” #ForTheNextGeneration.

I am very much looking forward to continuing to work with cross-functional colleagues within and beyond Bayer Vital to breathe life into these words and as we collectively strive to realize our Bayer vision for the benefit of patients and consumers in Germany.
