It's Thanksgiving week in the US, which means some of us are gonna be pretty busy in the cooking department. Or not, depending if you'll be a guest. Or if you're a spouse who's rather adept at disappearing at key moments. Not that I'm naming names, oh-husband-of-mine-who-shall-remain-nameless. 😏 Which end of the turkey keeps you busiest? The preparation or the feasting? Or if you're not a turkey eater, what's your main substitution for the main course? That would be salmon for us. Turkey substitutions can sometimes get you banned from the kitchen. My mother still won't let me forget when I made a curried acorn squash with lentils as a vegetarian option. Evidently, the smell of curry completely overwhelmed the aroma of her carefully prepared turkey. Lesson learned: don't mess with Mom's special Thanksgiving preparations unless you want to get demoted to dishwashing duty.

🦃 In the United States, many of us are preparing for the big Thanksgiving Day feast. It is one of my favorite holidays. I make the turkey, stuffing and apple pie to take to my nephew's house each year. When people hear that I make all of that they say, "Why don't you just host it?" Well, it has become family tradition that I make those items. 👨👩👦👦 I've become known for the turkey because of the gravy it makes due to the white wine, shallots and dried dates (prunes). The family calls it "crack gravy" because once you have it you can't have another. 🧑🍳 I found the recipe years ago in a Food Network magazine featuring Rachel Ray. Another tradition is my 🍎Paper Bag Apple Pie🥧. Yes, it is actually cooked in a paper bag! Last year, I did try using brown craft paper (not advised). It caused a bit of a fire 🔥 in the oven, but we managed to save the pie. I make the pie at home and transport it. We put it in the oven when we sit down for dinner and it cooks while we eat and then are able to serve warm apple pie🥧with ice cream for dessert. I'm curious: 🦃 What are your favorite Thanksgiving traditions or food? 🥧 What's your favorite pie or dessert for Thanksgiving? 🗒 Any recipes you'd like to share? 🤔(share in comments) 📸: My Thanksgiving turkey from last year #Thanksgiving #TurkeyDay #FamilyTraditions #Foodie #HomeCooking #ThanksgivingRecipes #GratefulHeart #FamilyTime #CookingWithLove #ThanksgivingPrep
