It's Thanksgiving week in the US, which means some of us are gonna be pretty busy in the cooking department. Or not, depending if you'll be a guest. Or if you're a spouse who's rather adept at disappearing at key moments. Not that I'm naming names, oh-husband-of-mine-who-shall-remain-nameless. 😏 Which end of the turkey keeps you busiest? The preparation or the feasting? Or if you're not a turkey eater, what's your main substitution for the main course? That would be salmon for us. Turkey substitutions can sometimes get you banned from the kitchen. My mother still won't let me forget when I made a curried acorn squash with lentils as a vegetarian option. Evidently, the smell of curry completely overwhelmed the aroma of her carefully prepared turkey. Lesson learned: don't mess with Mom's special Thanksgiving preparations unless you want to get demoted to dishwashing duty.

When I first got married, I wanted to be this amazing wife who made gourmet meals for her husband every night. And I did and we gained a good 10 pounds our first year. What I learned is that every meal does not need to be fancy and gourmet. Gourmet equals high fat, carbs and calories. So I’ve tried to teach my children to appreciate the true function of food, which is to fuel your body and to get the nutrients that it needs. Celebrations involve food and that is fine. It’s something to wait for and look forward to. It’s not something to expect every meal or even once a week. Our relationship with food has become very dysfunctional where everything revolves around it. We deny ourselves nothing. We believe that if we crave it, we need it when in fact, we just want it. If we held off just a few minutes, we might even forget about the craving. Sometimes cravings are a signal that isn’t food-related. For instance, oftentimes when we are dehydrated, we register it as hunger so if you hydrate properly a lot of cravings will subside. But enough about that. Let’s get back to the ham… Coke ham is what my boys look forward to all year. They endure a LOT of chicken breast, ground turkey and fish so I don’t hold back when the holidays come around. This bad boy is simple and always comes out delicious. Take a bone in ham and place it in a baking bag. Pour a 2 liter bottle of Coke in, close it up and bake according to the cook time and temp on the ham you have. Hi, I’ll be back next week with some leftover recipes and who doesn’t love leftovers ?! 😜 #midliferevive #healthylifestyle #whatdoyoustrugglewith

Our national day of eating is just around the corner! 🍗🍠🥧🥔🍷 I know how much time, money, and effort it takes to host and cook a Thanksgiving event - and none of that hard work should go to waste. While planning out your cooking schedule, jot down ideas for preventing the food you cooked from touching the trash can. ReFED provides several tips in the infographic below. The related article (pasted below) shares an interesting fact: turkey and milk are the most wasted ingredients after Thanksgiving. What!?!? Here are a few ideas to prevent that from happening: - Freeze leftover turkey and milk you don't plan to eat/drink within the next few days. Yes, you CAN freeze milk (Google how to do it safely). - Freeze the turkey carcass and turn it into turkey broth when you can. (It's way easier to do than you may think.) - Repurpose the turkey: dice it for omelets and frittatas, make endless sandwiches, add it to soups, make turkey salad (like chicken salad), and more. The internet has a wealth of ideas for leftover turkey. - Use up the milk: treat yourself to luxurious hot chocolate made with milk instead of water, make a smoothie to detox from the holiday, have a late-night bowl of cereal when no one is looking, and make a modified White Russian. 🥂Cheers to a low-waste turkey day! https://lnkd.in/eDzPX-dh #thanksgiving #turkeyday #lowwaste #zerowaste #foodwaste #sustainableliving #behaviorchange

I used to think loving food and getting fit were enemies... Plot twist - they're actually besties! 🤯 Let me take you back to my 'chicken and broccoli only' era (iykyk 😅). As an Asian woman who grew up with the most amazing food, forcing myself to eat bland meals was literally crushing my soul. Here's the thing I discovered on my journey: • You don't have to give up your favorite foods • Meal prep doesn't mean boring food • Balance > Restriction My meal prep now includes everything I love - yes, even rice! 🍚 Here's my simple strategy: 1. Prep protein in bulk (Should take you 30 mins max) 2. Cook vegetables with actual seasoning (15 mins max cook time) 3. Make sauces that spark joy (10 mins max cooking) Total time: Less than an hour for days of delicious meals that actually make me excited to eat! ✨ Comment your favourite meal prep food below! #hangluufitness #achievechampionship #mealprep #healthyeating
