On May 1, 2024 from 5:15 - 6:45 p.m. at 1025 Queen Street West in #Toronto , CAMH is hosting a HYBRID event: "What’s next for MAiD for mental illness?" In March 2024, changes to #Canada ’s #MedicalAssistanceInDying ( #MAiD ) law were delayed. The changes would have expanded MAiD eligibility so that people whose only medical condition is #mentalillness could apply. With this delay, many people may be asking: what now? Join a panel of experts as they explore what this means for people with lived experience of mental illness, and their families and loved ones. Questions from the audience will also be discussed. If you have a question for the panel, you can send it in advance. If you’re joining in-person you will also be able to submit questions during the event. To learn more and register for both the virtual and in-person event, visit the event registration page: https://lnkd.in/gm_JexYh

“Hands down the best talk I have listened to, to date. A part of me wants to send the link to everyone….State Reps, State Senators, the Governor, media outlets, mental health professionals, friends, family, everyone!" For those of you who have not watched Darrell Herrmann’s recent Peer Tak, I highly encourage you to do so. You will have a greater understanding of what it is like to live with a psychotic illness and what is needed for a meaningful recovery. His expertise in living with a psychotic illness will help identify the failures of our current system and hopefully help bring about the change that is needed throughout the country. #shatteringsilence #recoveryispossible #right2treatment https://lnkd.in/gwkrFCnn

💞Emotional support is a vital lifeline for survivors of domestic abuse. Research undertaken as part of our #PublicHealth Approach shows 78% of survivors highlighted emotional support as crucial to recovery. Yet too many people tell us survivors’ mental health needs are not being met. ⭐Our Public Health Approach emphasises the importance of trauma-informed care, ensuring that professionals create safe spaces where survivors feel heard, validated, and understood. 🎇We work with local authorities, police and crime commissioners, clinical commissioning groups and other multi-agency partners to undertake a systemic review through the lens of the whole family, to ensure all survivors get the right support, at the right time. June is dedicated to #MensHealthMonth, but we proudly stand in solidarity with our community year-round, committed to lifting the veil and reshaping public perception about men's physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.💙 For too long, men seeking health care has been a topic of shame to be shelved or buried until it becomes too serious to ignore. Rather than "toughen up" or "pull up your bootstraps," we're encouraging all men and their loved ones to take that first, second, third, seventh step, especially concerning depression, substance abuse, and suicide. Because, we'll say it as many times as we need to before you believe — seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Let's make men's health a priority, today and every day. #EndTheStigma #MentalHealthMatters #YouNeedToHearThis #JFlowersHealthInstitute #SeekHelp #TakeTheFirstStep #SuicidePrevention #Addiction #SubstanceAbuse

On October 10, 2024, I had the honor of participating in the National Suicide Prevention Conference themed “Decriminalizing Suicide: Long Overdue” Decriminalizing suicide is a vital step toward a more compassionate society, shifting the focus from punishment to understanding. This approach affirms that mental health struggles deserve empathy, not judgment, and encourages individuals in crisis to seek help without fear of legal repercussions. The event highlighted the urgent need for systemic reforms and compassionate approaches to mental health, emphasizing suicide as a public health issue. I’m proud to be part of conversations that challenge stigma and advocate for change. Together, we can build a more supportive and understanding society. #MentalHealthMatters #DecriminalizeSuicide #CompassionOverJudgment #EndTheStigma #SuicidePrevention #AdvocacyForMentalHealth #PublicHealthReform #SupportAndEmpathy #MentalHealthAwareness #SystemicChange #Sdgs2030 #Sdg3
