The Olympic program has come a long way since its inception in 1896. Croquet and tug-of-war were once Olympic sports, with croquet making its only appearance in 1900 and tug-of-war returning five more times until 1920. As the world changes, so does the Olympic program. This year, two sports make their Olympic debuts, while several others are making a comeback. Host countries can now nominate one-off events that "enhance the popularity of the Games," ensuring that the program remains fresh and exciting. Celebrate the diversity and evolution of the Olympic program, and keep cheering on your favorite athletes as they strive to be faster, higher, stronger, and yes, even floatier.🏅🌊 #olympics #newsport #oldsport #staypositive #happylaw

Really enjoyed sharing my approach to conducting a needs analysis specific to the trunk within rowing and de-construction of the rowing stroke with specific emphasis on hip and trunk function, allowing the formulation of a technical framework for the trunk to inform decision making around programming. As part of a workshop on enhancing trunk capability at the UK Sports Institute a couple of months ago. My thinking in this areas has evolved across my roles with the 🇨🇳 Olympic rowing team and the 🇬🇧 Paralympic team, playing a key role in the delivery of impactful S&C support as part of the preparations for the Tokyo Olympics and Paris Paralympics. 2/2 #strengthandconditioning #trunktraining #spinalfunction #rowing

The Olympic medal count system can be seen as #insane and #unfair due to several reasons. Firstly, it doesn't account for the varying levels of difficulty and competitiveness across different sports. For instance, #swimming and #gymnastics have numerous events, offering more medal opportunities, while sports like #rugby and #baseball have very few. This disparity can unfairly skew the medal tally in favor of countries excelling in sports with multiple events. Additionally, sports like #athletics and #football, with higher global participation, often see stiffer competition, making medals harder to come by compared to niche sports like #equestrian. The system also fails to recognize the individual brilliance required in sports with fewer events, like marathon running. Furthermore, team sports like basketball contribute only a single medal despite the collective effort involved. The medal count also overlooks the different investment levels and resources available to athletes from various countries. This system can therefore misrepresent a country's overall athletic capability and investment in sports development. #Olympics #MedalCount #FairPlay #AthleteDiversity #SportsEquality #CompetitionLevels #GlobalParticipation #TeamSports #AthleticInvestment #OlympicChallenges

The Australian high-performance sport system is taking important steps to enhance opportunities for current and future Paralympians. Through a united and aligned approach across our sector—including Sports, Paralympics Australia, and our Institute and Academy partners—we are working together to strengthen pathways and remove barriers to entry and progression for Para-athletes. A key part of this effort is the Para System Uplift, which will drive a series of connected and cohesive initiatives designed to improve identification, early development, and high-performance integration for Paralympians. One of the most exciting developments is the creation of a national network of Para Units, helping to accelerate talent identification and provide structured support in the early stages of an athlete’s journey. Great to see the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) Para Unit launch as part of this network, with Paralympic champions Emily Petricola OAM PLY and Jed Altschwager OAM PLY stepping into leadership roles to mentor and develop the next generation. Having some of our most accomplished Paralympians leading the charge is an exciting milestone—and there’s much more to come. Looking forward to seeing the impact of these initiatives in the years ahead! 𝐀𝐧 𝐎𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐜 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐓𝐨𝐩-𝟔 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐛𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟖 When USA Team Handball set its sights on a top-6 Olympic finish, it was clear: we needed more than just raw talent. By 2028, the goals included: ↳ 40 elite athletes per gender in the national pool ↳ Regular high-level competition and international exposure ↳ Top-2 regional finishes for Olympic qualification 𝑪𝒖𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒔: As of 2024, USATH is advancing steadily toward these targets. Currently, 6 players from the Women’s National Team (WNT) are competing with clubs eligible for international club competitions, such as the #EuropeanCup or #ChampionsLeague. Although only one of these players is currently professional, this exposure is a crucial step in building competitive depth. 𝑪𝒍𝒖𝒃 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑬𝒖𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒆 We’re also in advanced talks to establish club partnerships in 🇫🇷 France, 🇩🇪 Germany, and 🇳🇱 Netherlands. These partnerships aim to station WNT pool players at specific clubs with a vision of developing them into professional athletes. Establishing these connections will be transformative, enabling our athletes to train and compete at the highest levels of international #handball. Building a competitive edge requires sustained resources, dedicated partnerships, and a shared commitment to #Olympic excellence. ➡️ Next Post: The Financial Foundation – Funding the Dream: https://lnkd.in/eyGwcsQk ⬅️ Previous Post: The Big Vision (2018 vs. Today): https://lnkd.in/eKJkbDuu

The USA Olympic Trials for swimming finished yesterday (June 15-23). What an event to take part in. It's known as The Meet of Tears for a reason. The years of training and preparation. The burden of expectation, stress, and fear of failure. The joy of qualifying and the despair of missing out. And then you see the photo of the pool with the crowd right there! Check out this post from Mel Stewart OLY. The article gives great insight into the event. #performance #mindset #swimming
Confession. Yes, I’ve won Olympic gold, but I am also a member of the “Olympic Trials 3rd Place Club” - For the non-swimming fans, if you get 3rd at U.S. Olympic Trials, you stay home and watch the Olympics on TV. And it is a very tough Olympics to watch when you were so close to making the team. That is why we also call Olympic Trials “The Meet of Tears”

Talent Spotlight: Stefan Bojic Talent: Freestyle Tennis As a lifelong tennis player, Stefan Bojic (@stef_bojic) always envisioned blending creativity with the sport he loved. Growing up in Novi Sad, Serbia, the concept of freestyle tennis had been brewing in his mind for years. However, it wasn’t until his move to New York City for university that this idea began to take shape. “I think it evolves with who we are,” Stefan reflects. “At the time, I was exploring filmmaking, so I approached freestyle tennis as my first real project. I never imagined it would grow this much.” With a deep understanding of technique and a creative vision, Stefan began crafting a unique style of play, blending technical skills with artistry. Drawing inspiration from pioneers in alternative sports like Rodney Mullen in skateboarding, Stefan committed himself to rigorous daily practice. “You just go out and do it for two hours every day. At first, you don’t know what to do, so you have to figure it out. That’s where nurturing the person behind the craft becomes so important,” he shares. Through relentless dedication, Stefan pushed the boundaries of what’s possible with a racket and ball, mastering tricks that challenge the conventional way of playing the sport. Beyond perfecting his skills, he had to navigate the complexities of building a career in a niche field. “It’s crucial to keep perspective and measure yourself against your own progress,” he says. “That’s how you know you’re moving forward.” As a trailblazer in freestyle tennis, @stef_bojic’s journey is one of innovation and a relentless drive to reimagine what’s possible. Stefan’s unique approach inspires athletes and creatives alike, proving that passion and determination can carve out paths that are entirely new. #thegarden #freestyletennis #athletes #inspirational #innovative #tennislife #passion
