At just 22 years old, Jackson Benavidez (@jacsuunn) has emerged as a rising force in multimedia art, known for his bold, mural-driven style. “I’ve always loved art—painting, drawing, music, poetry, theater,” he shares. It wasn’t until a period of personal turmoil that he truly embraced it. Seeking clarity, Jackson turned to psychedelic therapy, a practice that unlocked a deeper creative purpose. “I realized I needed a creative outlet to feel comfortable, to cope with reality,” he explains. This introspective journey ignited a shift in how he viewed creativity—not just as expression, but as a tool for self-discovery and unity. “Everyone needs to understand themselves. For me, that was drawing, which became painting, then sculpting. Creativity is this vast, interconnected thing that anyone can use to better understand themselves.” Jackson describes his style as “psychedelic tribalism,” influenced by ancient cultures and their visual storytelling. “I love Mesopotamian, Aztec, Mayan, and Egyptian art,” he says. “I’m drawn to Hindi and Buddhist styles—art that’s tableau-like, almost two-dimensional, but incredibly rich.” His creative process blends intuition and structure. “Ideas come at random—sometimes while driving, sometimes just being in a space. I start with an intention and build from there.” Looking ahead, Jackson wants to expand his voice beyond visual art, incorporating poetry and spoken reflections into his work. “I write a lot, and I want to share that. I want to put my poetry out there in a way that connects to my art,” he says. “I have realizations while creating, and I think they’re important.
