New Zealand Health relies on WPATH to manage our gender dysphoric girls The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) enjoys the reputation of being the leading scientific and medical organisation devoted to transgender healthcare. WPATH is globally recognised as being at the forefront of gender medicine. However, via the WPATH leaks we learn the opposite is true. The released files from WPATH’s internal messaging forum, as well as a leaked internal panel discussion, demonstrate that the world-leading transgender healthcare group is neither scientific nor advocating for ethical medical care. These internal communications reveal that WPATH advocates for many arbitrary medical practices, including hormonal and surgical experimentation on minors and vulnerable adults. Its approach to medicine is consumer-driven and pseudoscientific, and its members appear to be engaged in political activism, not science. So I asked HealthNZ if they still had confidence in these WPATH activists and they said YES WE DO. If you think New Zealand should stop this abuse please sign the petition calling for a ban on chemical/surgical transitioning of children - https://lnkd.in/g7mmxr6J Here is the full report on WPATH- https://lnkd.in/g65jZ8s4

20th May is Clinical Trials Day hosted by the ACRP - Association of Clinical Research Professionals Clinical Trials Day is held on the 20th May every year to commemorate the day Dr. James Lind began the first controlled clinical trial back in 1747! Dr. Lind was working as a ship’s surgeon and was horrified at the high mortality rate of scurvy among sailors. He divided a group of those with scurvy and had each follow a particular regimen. He determined oranges and lemons (sources of vitamin C) gave the best result and the rest as they say, is history…! At The Salve and as part of our commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality - we continue to highlight sex and gender in clinical research. On Clinical Trials Day our #MedComms reading list for you is: 👥Read and implement the SAGER (Sex and Gender Equity in Research) guidelines, ensuring they’re part of your agency publication guidelines check list and TRAILBLAZE for your clients towards gender equity in research! 👥Read the Women in Pharma (WiP) #BeyondBikiniMedicine White Paper and Manifesto. The Salve supported the writing of the manifesto and it’s jam-packed with (not-always-so-fun) facts. This is a must-read for anyone who cares about making medicine work better for women AND for men and it has eight actionable steps to enable everyone to TRAILBLAZE their way toward equity in research! Do drop us a message if you’d like to explore how to ensure that health equity is a core facet of your strategic medical plan. . . . #ClinicalTrialsDay #Data #MedicalAffairs #ClinicalResearch #HealthEquity

Hindering AMR is complex, but gender equality is a fundamental and necessary part. From One Health Trust “Gender inequality and norms can hinder access to care through restricted mobility; lack of autonomous decision-making; limited financial independence; illiteracy; and bias from healthcare providers. In communities that uphold strong patriarchal values and generally favor men and boys over women and girls, women may voluntarily seek care less frequently and focus on medical expenses for their families and children instead.” Let’s hope that the essential role of gender equality is also being discussed this week and every week. https://lnkd.in/dKcD7vY5

From decades running programs for adolescents and youth, we know that young people’s perspectives must drive the solutions and innovations meant for them. In #Pakistan, Pathfinder is a partner on the USAID-funded Frontier Health Markets (FHM) Engage project, which seeks to make health markets responsive, equitable, resilient, and driven by consumer needs. FHM Engage conducted a comprehensive market analysis to develop context-specific solutions to barriers young people face when trying to access contraception and reproductive healthcare. This included forming a youth council to ensure solutions are “for the youth, by the youth.” The result is “BOLO Health,” a digital health marketplace developed through a #PrivateSectorPartnership with Oladoc, a digital aggregator in the health system. BOLO Health delivers tailored health services, information, and products to young people online. Alex Tang MEd, BSc(Pharm) and Tristan Lai, lecturers at the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, recognized how members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community don’t always feel safe and accepted while interacting with the healthcare system. 🩺 It led them to create the PRIDE-RX (promoting 2SLGBTQ+ inclusion, diversity, and equity in pharmacy education) project—one of Canada’s first initiatives to integrate sexual orientation, gender identity and expression into the Entry-to-Practice Doctor of Pharmacy program. 🏥 Alex notes, “Patients and study participants have often shared that one negative experience with a healthcare provider can turn them away from seeing future healthcare providers for their healthcare needs—whether it's gender-affirming care, or whether it's care related to other aspects of their lives.” 🔗 Learn more about the PRIDE-RX project here: https://bit.ly/3BsbkjK

Trans-equity is crucial in addressing the significant disparities faced by transgender individuals, particularly in the Deep South. Statistics show that transgender people, especially trans women of color, face disproportionate challenges in healthcare, employment, and safety. For instance: Trans people are four times more likely to live in poverty than the general population, with Black trans individuals facing even higher rates of unemployment and poverty. In the southern U.S., transgender individuals experience some of the highest rates of HIV, with nearly 44% of Black transgender women living with HIV. Access to gender-affirming care remains limited in many southern states due to restrictive policies, with over half of trans people in these areas reporting delays in or denial of healthcare. Achieving trans equity means addressing these systemic barriers and creating safe, affirming environments that provide access to healthcare, housing, employment, and legal protections for all trans individuals.
